Greent - wow! A quick turn around required then, for ds1. Is he going to the same place as dd?

Hi apple - yep, very quick! It would be easier (in terms of prior knowledge) if he was off to the same place as DD, but he's travelling further West than she is. However, their Semesters both end on the same date in Dec, so OH can go far West to collect DS1 and then travel back to DD, collect her and then come home :) (We always collect them/ take them back at end/ start of terms (so far - no really long journeys as yet...) because of the amount of clothes they cart around with them for the holidays - and I send huge amounts of food back for the start of the new semester :D. DD travels back by train quite often if it's a short break)

It will be very strange here. For half the week it will just be me and the smallest 2 - half of the household gone!

Spendy day today - more food shopping (for everyone and also some basic staples for the students) Also another bridge toll, as OH is taking DD back tonight with some furniture. She's only popping back for a few days for her new job though, so will be catching the train back on Weds :)

Work tomorrow - invigilating Y7 CATS - herding kittens springs to mind...….:p:rotfl:

Today I am grateful for my pyjamas, for lemsip, for dozes, for dd to keep me company, for dh buying bacon, for the Great North run + Vuelta a Espana and Tour of Britain on in the background, for still eating well (I crave sugar but know that it will make me much much worse, so am limiting myself to my 85% choc).

  • Hope you feel better soon, Apple.

We had our walk and I managed to restrict Himself to buying just the beans and some sweets for the children.

It's been a miserable afternoon, Cold and really heavy rain showers. I have not been good today. Had crisps and several gins and tonic. Really must try to avoid doing this. It undoes all the good of being healthy the rest of the week. Roast beef for dinner. I'll avoid the roast potatoes but I think the damage is done.

    Otherwise it's been very quiet.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

  • Almost a nsd for me today - just dd's birthday present. She wanted a piercing, so we got that done today while we were out and about shopping. Managed to resist all temptation of clothes, food and expensive coffee.
I've been busy but haven't gotten everything that I needed to done - a minor emergency came up when the trampoline finally gave up for good and the frame snapped. I thought it best to dismantle asap just in case the kids were tempted.
Welcome back mothernerd - it sounds as though you had a really fantastic time away.

Some progress made today. Checked the freezer. It has 7 drawers. I have 2 drawers full of frozen veg (some carrots have been eaten) and tuna steaks have not been touched. The 2 cooked legs of lamb are there and thre are a few bits and pieces (3 sausages, 1 steak pudding, a side portion of veg curry etc). Lots of empty space. Very little in the fridge. A few tins of tuna, baked beans and tomatoes. Will shop tomorrow and/or try for a delivery later in the week.

All the kitchen surfaces have an average 15" of gubbins on them (dirty pots, stuff taken out for cooking, takeaway wrappers) and there are two towering piles of rubbish (bin and a cardboard box next to it, filled then topped with a pile of pizza boxes) and a thin layer (empty cans, more takeaway bags/ wrapping, cheese triangles that got stood on, all the stuff that missed the bins or was dropped when the bin was deemed to be full. Decided that I cannot stand for very long yet so will tackle most of that later in the week (rubbish rubbish bin - as opposed to the 3 recycling rubbish bins - is emptied on Wednesday so will cram as much as possible in there tomorrow and Tuesday).

I have restarted the wedding sampler (was originally meant for someone else, got put aside and is now intended for Mr and Mrs DS1). Have an invite to return of the Married Couple Part VI on the 22nd. DS3 has been invited and after a short discussion he will be going (fingers-crossed). Am thinking about hiring a mini bus to take us a nd pick us up. It is many years since all 3 of my sons were in the same room (probably DS2's 21st). I will apologise to DS2 as DS3 explained exactly why DS2 would be not speaking to me (I am a very bad story teller and have too many detours and if I have told the story of everything that went wrong on our trip to Sorrento to several people in DS2's presence etc. A mother's place is in the wrong.

Gathered more washing together and will start to process that - by the time the weather had cleared a little it was too late to bother starting.

Have found an extension bar as I cannot get my laptop plugged back into it's previous socket (had to ask DS3 to get it out for me - my arms were not long enough).

Today I am grateful for all my sons (all very different in appearance attitude and interests but I love them all and like to spend time with them - even if I have to watch rugby union, Will Ferrell films, Japanese cartoons more than I would choose to). At the wedding those who only knew DS1 commented how tall DS2 is (they are tall/ med, fair/dark, thin/ solid) only to be told by the best 'man' that the baby is taller still (a behemoth he is). Grateful for my bed (determined to have a root and branch clear out in here) and for my little house that has kept me relatively safe for the past 36 years.

    Evening all

The end of the weekend already! Today was more productive than yesterday, got a few chores done and then went out riding. Still keeping it short because of my ankle injury but managed a bit more than last week so moving in the right direction. Also went to watch a friend's daughter doing a little riding competition with some other kids her age. Lots of tears from some of the kids, does make me wonder whether sometimes it's a bit much considering their age, it sure does seem to suck the fun out of it!

Was very naughty today and went out for breakfast with OH  spent £10. This is a sadly all too common Sunday treat, and although I have the money I do sometimes feel guilty nevertheless. As it was a spend day I also paid for a car wash (not very MSE but we live in a flat and I can't face going up and down the stairs loads to fill a bucket until my ankle heals, then I'm back to washing it myself as I prefer that and do a better job!).

    Hi all:j

Made some progress today doing jobs both outside & inside - no painting outside though as rain showers.

Set your budgets now. Pay to your debts/savings first and live off the rest. Make sure you're on the best deals for utilities, phones, broadband, etc. Are there any areas in your budget that you could cut down on? Printed out cc statement & packed some items to be sent back for refunds.

Use up. Have a look through your cupboards and identify any food that's been lurking there for a while and incorporate it into a meal plan. Likewise toiletries, any half opened bottles - use before opening/buying more. Used up some cooked basmati rice today and fish I got out of the freezer to make kedgeree. This was the freezer that was completely iced up. DH bless him managed to wrench it open, so I took 2 items out of it for use this week.

NSDs - there are 30 days in September so a minimum of 15 or 20 for a harder challenge. Usual exemptions for ys items, petrol and medical expenses. Now 4/15

Spread some sunshine - be kind to others, help out friends, neighbours, colleagues and strangers. Share your tales of any random acts of kindness. Not today.

Healthy eating - up your fruit and veg intake, quit snacking between meals or choose healthier options. Reasonable but still can do better.

Invest in yourself. Make sure you take the time to do things that you enjoy. Try something new that you've always wanted to do. Enjoyed being in the garden doing actual gardening instead of maintenance jobs. Picked more blackberries.

No spending on takeaways, drinks out, etc unless prearranged and budgeted for. No takeaways today.

Try to find free activities to do. Will do.

Exercise - it won't be long before the darker nights start drawing in so make the most of it while you can. Get outdoors for walk/run/cycle even if only for 10 minutes. Outside both am & pm.

    go Turtles!!
New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear
