    Thanks ccl and keery woman

Today was a semi write off, I managed two dog walks, one load a washing, an hour of work and a trip to the dog groomers. In between, I literally did nothing but sat/lay still and I am shattered. I think I will hold off the gym for a few days, but with the dogs I cannot get away with not walking them! Plan for tomorrow will be to take laptop back to temping job, two dog walks and rest. The school work will have to wait, not sure until when but I feel like I am in a thick fog, the day has flown by and I can barely remember it.

    Hi all :j

The flowers for August are the Gladioli and the Poppy which represents beauty, strength, love, marriage and family

Back to do my shift in the CS after being absent last week due to doggy emergency. DH noted that there were 5 notices in the windows asking for volunteers. You won't get the sack then, he says :rotfl:

    Aim – for 15 NSD’s still 11/15.

Update (Budgets) – will keep receipts of all spends since back in the UK, at least for another month. Nothing today but accumulating more receipts..still need to input to spreadsheet. Will try to do after this post (!). Err no.. might as well give up on this one & vow to actually do it next month!

Get (prepared for Xmas) – Wool arrived for gift I will be knitting - colours I think will suit my aunt, hopefully. Downloaded free pattern for it. Ordered some cards for birthday/Christmas that are topical for the celebrations, before I forget. Looked into ordering a cake for my uncles birthday also. Sadly one of the things I ordered for my uncle they don't have & have refunded me..any ideas for a gift for an 80 year old in not great health?? No progress here although the cards I ordered arrived, they are very good. Have made a start on knitted gift, seems odd not to be knitting socks tbh! Not sure of the colours but hopefully they are ones that aunt will appreciate more than I. Had to first wind the skein into a ball, couldn't be bothered to get out the contraption that winds into a cake, big mistake. Hey ho eventually I ended up with a ball not a tangled mess. Did a bit of this project today, did have to pull out some of it but think I have the hang of it now. Would be lovely to get the gifts done ahead of time, instead of frantically trying to finish on Christmas Eve..Nothing today.

Utilise (free activities in your area) - none available.

Share (money saving tips) – Our CS has to rotate the stock as we have so much stuff brought in & it is open every single day 7 days a week. Once a week they take all the stock dated 2 weeks previous & sell it off at 50p per item. Your local CS may well do the same - worth trying to find out to grab a bargain.

Treat (yourself) – I would like everyone to budget £3 for a luxury item, have my cold infuse teas now, first one I tried was nice, second one not so keen. Am sipping my way through these. Still like them - although it is not so hot now, it helps with water intake.

The challenge will run from 1st August 00:01 until 31st August 00:00.

    Go turtles!!!!!!

Today I am grateful for finding a charity that would take the 4 (!) spare duvets from mum's, for clearing more from the house, for a nice visit with mum, for a lovely chat with a neighbour, for working out that the caption 'racing on the firth of clyde' under a photo shows my dad as a boy and his parents racing a boat(!!!) with no hint of a buoyancy aid on any of them.

Those were the days - I'm always telling my kids tales of what I got up to as a kid - it's a wonder any of us survived.

Yesterday was NSD 13 as I did not leave the house at all.

Back to school for the kids this morning - DS2 tried to go in his black trainers but I noticed and made him change into his 'dress shoes' - they are always mental about uniform the first week or two of each term. Loads of people had their kids sent home last year for inappropriate (whatever), and there was lots of chuntering at the school gates of their younger kids about it. Mine will not be sent home. If for no other reason than I will have to go pick them up.

Somehow have bought 12 pairs of school shoes / trainers /wellies / plimsoles, but managed to miss out DS 3's main shoes. Argh! 95% of all shoes needed sucessfully achieved, 4%ish failure feels so bad though. He is back in his old school shoes for the next 2 days.

    House very quiet now.. shhhhh!

Tidying and making menu plans for this week and next with what we have in. - I think I migh tbe able to get away with a 9 item shopping list for the next 2 weeks. Colder weather means stews and soups and a bigger bank balance.
    Roll on payday (Friday)
    Excited about September already...

    Hi Lovely turtles -

Spent the morning looking at our Sky mobile bundle- we never use our data up (it rolls over with sky) so we have lowered the bundle we are on and saved £15 per month. :T I need to look at our budgets again as hub is being sent away in a few weeks, we will earn slightly more but going away doesn't come without costs.
Trying a new gammon recipe , cooking it in ginger ale in the slow cooker, gammon was reduced in Aldi and will do two meals at least. a bit wary of the ginger Ale thing, but it is meant to be nice :D

I am looking for places to go on holiday next year in the UK , we cannot afford abroad, so looking at caravan type places with 2 littlies, if anyone has any suggestions?

Not a great deal to report to be honest!! :) have a lovely day all

Went for a nice walk in the park. Saw plenty of geese, swans and some wild parrots.
Just did a few bits around the flat.

One more NSD acheived. Tuesday was frantic. Arrived at mum's (she had been taken out for a supposed picnic which turned into a pub meal as the weather was dodgy) to find that crazy dog had been left behind. She has calmed down a little (she's 4 now) and the welcome only lasted about 20 minutes before she lay down on the blanket and she didn't make a fuss when I said a firm No to her sharing my lunch.

Pills arrived soon after I got there and the text announcing the delivery was on it's way followed shortly. Van arrived (I give good instructions) and I answered the plaintive "But I've not ordered anything" with "I have". Let mum in the house and crazy dog's mum and I put all the tins etc into bags (mine were already lined up, she got hers out of the car) thenshe took dog off to vet appointment and I started on dragging bags of tins through to spare room to the cupboard called the soupery.

Mum has tinned soup for one of her meals, most days of the week. If she's well enough, it is something she can do for herself. Last year I had a dozen of each of her favourites (SM own brand) and stacked them so that a variety could be added to the kitchen cupboard every time it emptied. This was in case of bad weather (I don't do well in snow - too many bad falls) and it worked well, so I'm repeating it this year (new improved, extra categories version).

Had to take frequent breaks (the lowest layers were most difficult) and then my neice came to visit (mum's birthday today). Mum offered her tea ('the slave will do it') and I did a little more stacking but more sitting and chatting. I phoned for a taxi as I'd told DS2 I'd be home by 4pm but none were available for half to 3/4 of an hour so neice set off on foot and I phoned DS2 to postpone until 8pm and went back to stacking.

Neighbour came round to tell mum she would be away for a few days. I answered the door to her, then she noticed heavily pregnant neighbour at her door. I said the girl at been knocking at several doors. Neighbour came back to say the girl was warning people that they suspected someone was putting poison down and several dogs had been ill.

Neighbour went. I put the bins out and did a bit of gardening (to fill the green bin). We ate, I went back to stacking (branston and beetroot on top shelf, so up and down little step ladder), then my brother arrived with his card and very well behaved dog (who did go into the kitchen first to see if any scraps had been put out for him (any oddments of meat and things like crackling go into the freezer to be handed over when they visit).

Slave made tea again, finished stacking. Asked brother for a lift home and arrived on the doorstep at the same time as DS2. I now have flight times and some other travel details. Suggested an alternate way of getting across Manchester (bypassing the city centre by getting off the bus at Salford Crescent and taking the train from there straight through to the airport) so he will check times of those trains.

Spent the evening cutting more shapes (just until I reached the end of the current Taggart episode). Today I woke before six but got up slowly. Took books back to the library - 30p fine (another reason I wanted to get back by 4pm yesterday) and went to crafts. A good session, good attendance and everyone took to the lavender bags with varying degrees of enthusiam.

Hilarious second half of the session as one of the recent participants took a shine to one of the veterans and asked her to marry her or take her to live in her flat (they both have 'boyfriends'). Our usual noisiest member was reduced to spluttering, stuttering and finally complete silence. Have handed over lots of cut out shapes, a selection of buttons, ribbons, trimmings and threads plus some sticky pads, scissors and bits to R for next week's session.

    Baby blankets were handed over.

Unwinding by reading. Planning an early night and to hit the ground running (fast hobble probably) tomorrow to tackle some of the holiday stuff.

Today I am grateful for good company, lots of laughs and the library.

Today I spent some time finalising September's budget as I get paid tomorrow. Had more money than usual left over this month (probably as a result of being housebound!). Ankle pain felt different today but mobility better. Stayed indoors though. Might go around the block again tomorrow and see how it is. Got the slow cooker on for a bit of cooking and will do the same tomorrow. Generally have a few bits of life admin to sort out. Have a trip to Iceland in 5 weeks so spending some time finalising that while I have the chance. Looking forward to it but also hoping my ankle is up to it, it's been booked for such a long time :(

I'll bow out of this challenge here as I weirdly run my month from payday to payday, but I'll pick back up in September. Have a successful rest of the month everybody!

    Hi all :j

The flowers for August are the Gladioli and the Poppy which represents beauty, strength, love, marriage and family

Bitty day trying to get a few things done & not really succeeding at any of them. Hey ho did get a package sent back this morning, still have accounts to get ready for end of year, have to get to accountants by Friday. Friend came round this afternoon so cup of tea & I cleverly got out my jewellery box (mostly unused these days) and she spent a happy hour cleaning them for me...result! She also is very knowledgeable about it & was able to tell me a few things about it I didn't know, so very pleased.

    Aim – for 15 NSD’s now 12/15.

Would be lovely to get the gifts done ahead of time, instead of frantically trying to finish on Christmas Eve..Did a few more rows of the pattern, think it will turn out OK but I don't like the colours myself (greens & browns).
