Can anyone recommend an Android phone under £100? Both my parents need something new as they both have 1st gen Moto E's......they are utterly useless in terms of memory and they constantly have to delete photos etc. just to keep the phone running! They don't need anything fancy, just something functional for WhatsApp and occasional browsing. A reasonable camera would be a bonus but not essential.0

You aren't going to get anything special at that price level but the 2018 version of the Moto E5 is very good value for money.
It only has 2gb of ram and 16gb of storage but it also has a micro sd card slot. Stick in a 32Gb card and you can store thousands of photos.
It has a 5.7 inch screen which may be a bit large but that's a matter of personal preference.

You really need to consider stretching that budget to get anything that will avoid the problems you already have.
I suspect Whatsapp may be your biggest issue, its getting pickier on the handset the Whatsapp app will be compatible with, moving away from some older handsets and Android versions, so I'd research that angle first.0 -
Just Google 'best Android phone £100'

has some decent suggestions.0 -
It may be worth making a short list of suitable phones around or slightly above your £100 limit, and monitoring any price drops around Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Have a look at the Honor 7A, which is currently £120 at John Lewis with 2 year guarantee, and, budget permitting, the Moto G6 Play, which is currently £140 on Amazon but is unlikely to drop below £100.0 -
How many mins + text + data you use each month?
Unlimited texts
500 data
300 texes.
But this is a rough guess.For ?? network + Phone ??
Have Sony Xz at the mo, now want the huawei p20 lite.Dont pay insurance and put that to a new phone .0 -
I think it's:
Unlimited texts
500 data
300 texes.
...
huawei p20 lite.
For a low usage on that phone, there are some pretty cheap contract deals available:-
From 3 direct: 500Gb, Unlimited Texts, 300 mins: £19 down + £18pm for 24 months
Mobiles.co.uk on EE: 1Gb, Unlimited Texts, Unlimited calls: £29 down + £18pm for 24 months.
Also some cheap exclusives here: https://www.moneysupermarket.com/mobile-phones/p20-lite-deals0 -
For those that are pooh-poohing the CPW deals, they have actually had some very compelling offers especially on the Huawei phones. There was an offer on the P20 Pro recently (not sure if it's still going) on O2 for 38pm + 79.99 upfront with 30GB data. If you do the maths on it, it's actually pretty good:
38 x 24 = 912
+ 79.99 makes total cost of ownership 991.99
The handset sim free runs at 799, so taking this out of the equation leaves you with a spend of 192.99 or 8.04pm for your 30GB sim. For the sake of argument, I will also say that when the sim free phone was on promo a few months ago I had seen it cheapest at 669, so even if you factor it as being that price rather than what it is now, that would still make your sim only 13.45pm which I would argue is pretty competitive for that amount of data on a traditional network with other benefits, like Priority.
OP - look at all the tariff options that CPW offer you, work out the total cost of ownership and your likely usage and see what feels right. Once your handset is back from repair I would strongly recommend getting it valued at GAME as they usually offer a better trade-in price and will still pay cash for your handset. Just looking on their website briefly, if you have the 64GB variant of the XZ they could pay you as much as 112 quid in cash!
The only other thing I would mention is that it sounds to me like you're going to be upgrading early, which is why they're talking about tariffs that are higher than what you're currently on. If you're in an early upgrade position you can only go onto a plan the same or higher than what you have at the mo. If you're not in a massive hurry to change your phone, wait until your upgrade is actually due and then choose a lower monthly plan (maybe with a greater upfront cost if you can get a good price on your trade-in).0 -
