  • Be very careful if you are considered a "Business" phone line. We are a registered charity but Plusnet quoted us a Business Broadband and Telephone line at £25 p.m. + £30 Connection fee and call charges at 1.5p per minute whereas TalkTalk quoted us "Essentials" package - if we pay line rental up front, this works out at £12.75 p.m. for the first year. No contest!
  • I saw the special link to Plusnet offer on the MSE site - linked to Plusnet shows offer. Placing an order shows offer doesnt actually exist. Phoned Plusnet - they don't know of offer - 'something head office must have done'. Not much help there then.

    Hi guys,

Hoping someone can make more sense than the guys at TalkTalk. Just moved into a rented apartment. And this broadband deal with TalkTalk seems really good.

However, during the checkout process I was told I'd need a visit from an engineer. I know the flat already has a telephone line, it may not be activated but it is physically there.

The guy on the website customer service (didn't seem to know much) thought they would physically install a new line. Which obviously I can't allow as I don't actually own the apartment, and would no doubt lose my bond.

Can anyone advise on what the engineer will actually do? Surely there doesn't need to be an entirely new phone line(including installation of a new socket) when they all lead to the BT exchange anyway!

Any advice much appreciated. The customer service level here has already got me thinking twice!

    Thanks

Hi, this is a bit of a ranty post about TalkTalk.

I just tried to sign up for the MSE deal and the website said I was already a customer (I've always been with Primus and BeUnlimited). I rang them up and it turns out that someone at a different address has Tiscali broadband registered on my phone number and there's nothing I can do about it!

After 30 mins of being passed around various TalkTalk departments, I'd already decided that I wasn't going to sign up but now I'm just a bit worried that some stranger is tied to my phone number in some way.

Hilariously, the last bit of advice I got from TalkTalk before I gave up was to write a letter to their Correspondence dept...

    Hello Matt,

Looks like the MSE blagged Plusnet 9 months discount offer does not show on my account correctly.

On Sunday 23 Feb, I placed my order for Unlimited Fibre Optic via the MSE blagged link and also paid for line rental for 12 months in advance. The final webpage showed my half price discount for nine months correctly, but neither on confirmation email, nor on my account detail on Plusnet is any trace of such discount.

I was today on the phone with Robert Nottingham and he confirmed he could not see any discount on my account and asked me to send a link which shows such discount. As you know this offer ended on 24 February so no active link would be available. I managed to find a Google cached page showing the description for this offer on MSE to him. I also explained to him that my Plusnet account shows that "You've paid this today: £151.86" whereas I was charged for £141.86; a difference of £10 which is the discount on my account. He is yet to come back to me.

Just wondering if the system would take sometime to show my discount or have I lost this offer? If so, I will have to go back to BT who, upon asking for a MAC code offered me 12 months half price on my current BT Infinity.

    Thank you.
    Hi there,

I'm afraid the offer is only available to new customers signing up using the link you mention in your post, sorry about that.

We certainly don't want to exclude existing customers though, I'd recommend you call our customer options team (choose the 'thinking of leaving us' option when you ring through) and discuss it with them, they'll be able to arrange something for you.

    Hope that helps,

What do people think about EE broadband (& phone of course)?

I am seriously thinking of moving to them from Plusnet who couldn't be bother to give me same deal as new customers.

Been with Orange for a while as had a discount as a mobile customer and my contract for BB is up so have been looking around but will probably stay as they devil you know......

Pros and cons with all i guess so my experience......phone service fine, broadband no real problems overall. If it does go wrong then it is the obligatory call to someone in India who despite their best efforts have problems with speaking english and being able to deviate from a script (have a nice day!). But this is no different to some of the others i have used (plusnet, tiscali, bt). They cocked up a house move but did give some compensation after i moaned so that made up for it. On the plus side the UK based centre helpline were helpful when we needed them.

BB has been fine for us but we dont do online gaming and stuff like that just emails, surfing and tv watching. Speed is good although it sometimes hangs but again no real problem.

Good luck with the choice and shame about Plusnet as i found them excellent - only changed because of the original orange discount.

I've been trying, without success, to get the plusnet offer recently pulicised. Below is an online chat I had with one of their representatives this morning...

Welcome to our Live Chat service. A member of our sales team will be with you shortly.
    You're now chatting to ....
Plusnet: Hi, my name is ..., I'm here to help you with your Plusnet order today.
Plusnet: How may I help you with your order today?
Me: I am interested in this deal - <copy and pasted link to MSE blagged offer - link page on plus net website...>
    Plusnet: Ok great
Plusnet: You're on the right page, just click on start the order and it will begin for you
Me: It doesn't work!! As my broadband is currently with plus net...
    Plusnet: How odd
Plusnet: Oh I see, that's only for new orders
Plusnet: IT won't work if you are already with us
Me: so - i can get this good deal if i've never been a plus net customer. But as I've been a loyal customer for 8+ years, I can't get the offer and have to pay more than new customers. Is that right??!!!
Plusnet: I am not aware of what existing customers get, perhaps if you call our existing customer team they can assist
Plusnet: I'd love to help but I can't access account details for existing customers, we only have access to the website to deal with new orders, sorry for that. However, if you call our customer services team on 0800 432 0200 or 0345 140 0200, they will be happy to help you with this.
Me: are they open just now?
Plusnet: They ought to be open now yes
    Me: ok - thanks
Me: not open until after 9am apparently :(
Plusnet: Strange, the contact us section only says sales is from 9am, but you're an existing customer
Plusnet: Unless it thinks you need to speak to sales as well?
Me: i just spoke to someone - who was unable to help and said i need to speak to the "customer options team" that are only open from 9am-5:30pm
Plusnet: I see, I'm not familiar with all the various departments out there
Plusnet: Not heard of them before
Me: none of this is really much help for me i'm afraid... :(
Plusnet: I understand, you'll need to wait for the team to open at 9 and see what they can do

...so much for their much-publicised customer service!!!!

I have generally been happy with plusnet over all the time I have had my broadband service with them, but unfortunately it looks like I'll be moving to another provider (a shame - as I was actually looking to move my phone line and call package to them as well!!). Looks like they have attractive offers for new customers but aren't particularly interested in customer retention!! :(

    Snap !

But by the time the customer retention people had got a roundtuit and offered me something under £5, I had already accepted the Talk Talk £3.25 deal and paid then a year's rental.

Fingers crossed, I have a neighbour and a son with Talk Talk and neither have yet fallen foul of Talk Talk's dodgy reputation.

Back in February I applied for the Plusnet phone & broadband deal via the MSE website link below after finally getting sick of TalkTalk's service. I signed up for the unlimited package which showed as £9.99/month but reduced to £4.99/month for the first 9 months with £25 cashback. When I completed the order I expected to see this discount and the details of the £25 cashback but none appeared. I have queried this with Plusnet but their response is that this is a special MSE hosted offer and I should have been given a code to enter when I completed my order. They also stated that I should request this code from MSE and they will then apply it to my order.

Is this is how the deal works and does anyone have the discount code?
    Cheers.

"Ends Sun! If you want Plusnet's broadband and home phone bundle, and you're a new customer, it's currently half price for nine months PLUS get £25 cashback. Pay for a year's line rental upfront to make maximum savings...

    1) Go via this special link* for Plusnet's Broadband Essentials package with line rental. If you can, pay £125.88 upfront - you'll get line rental for the equivalent of £10.49/month (standard line rental is £13.99/month).

    2) The broadband package itself is half price at £2.99/month for nine months of the 12-month contract. Then it's £5.99/month for the remaining three. Plus you'll have to pay £5.99 for delivery of the router.

    3) MoneySavers who sign up via the link above before Sun 24 Feb 2013 will also get £25 cashback. Factor this into the overall cost and it's £151.75 for the year, or equivalent to £12.65/month."

I am currently with TalkTalk on their essential package. I am paying £21 for unlimited evening and weekend calls and broadband. While I can't fault the price I am not happy with the broadband as I get frequent buffering when streaming etc and dropped connections. I have tried to arrange a new router from talktalk as it is years old and I feel this might be part of the problem. However I have been passed to about five different departments and I am still no further forward.

I have been on-line with the intention of changing providers but every time I find a positive review for an ISP I find another five slating them. I know there will always be problems and people who are impossible to please but surely it's not to much to ask to find aan ISP with more than 50% satisfaction.

I am looking for a reliable connection with free evening & weekend calls. If anyone can point me in the right direction and has something positive to say about an ISP I'll be delighted to hear it.
  • I am looking for a non packaged deal. Plusnet is BT in disguise and bill has trebled. I use Skype, far cheaper than the rest and no line charges. Tesco as always is a complete con.
This website only has main players. Can anyone help regarding a non mainplayer broadband only supplier
