Sky broad band is the WORST broad band service in the world! Don't be fooled by the special offers, it really isn't worth it. If FB had a Do Not Like thumbs down I would be using it right now. If you are considering getting Sky broad band think again. I write this after a very disappointing month of subscribing to Sky. Since plugging in the box and following all the instructions the lights came on and the smiley face flashed orange. And flashed orange off and on for the last 4 weeks. Things got so bad that I have to buy a separate dongle so that I could get wifi. I work from home - no wifi no work - no work - no pay. You get the picture. We have had two engineer call outs and was about to have another "specialist engineer" call out when I decided enough was enough. As each call out takes a week before they can come within a 5 hour appointment slot. Basically you sit at home waiting for 5 hours. So for us this resulted in two work days lost with the prospect of yet another day off work. For some that may not be too bad but when you work from home, are self employed and depend on a reliable broad band service, the prospect of yet another day of lost earnings was the final straw for me. Out of sheer frustration I cancelled with Sky to go back to EE my original provider. Oh..and if you are wondering how Sky customer service are offering to compensate me, well they say they will give me back the months subscription. Great! you might think. But for those of you that have an understanding of what it means to have lost earnings due this very poor service provider you will know that £20 is just not going to cover it. So once again if you are thinking about swapping to Sky because their deal is too good to be true. You are right.....as you know what they say about deals that are too good to be true. Buyer beware!!!!

Plusnet are so sneaky :( Entered into a 1yr contract with Plusnet April 2014 on a special offer that made it seem worthwhile. That came to an end and it turned into a rolling contract. Price has increased a couple of times since but I have let it ride. The most important thing is that they have notified me in advance of the increase, with the option to bow out.

However, today I looked at my advance DD notification email and the price has jumped by over £5 with no prior warning!! Needless to say I phoned to cancel only to be told I would need to phone back in the morning

Have now signed up to SSE via Quidco so Plusnet can shove it!

Anyone else experienced a stealth increase in price?

We really do have to keep our wits about us where these providers are concerned! They rely on our complacency and/or ignorance of the market but they don't realise that we graduated from the Martin Lewis school of penny retention with a MA in "oi, get your filthy corporate hands out of my pocket" :rotfl:

Quidco is already showing as tracked at £70 so happy days

Just a moan about BT OpenReach

Living in rural Worcestershire I get speeds between 0.2 to 0.8mbs download, with a ping of 2000ms+ and an upload that rarely registers anything on the speedtest scales.

BT have checked the old copper cable numerous times and report no fault with it, other than it is old and a long way from the exchange. The one ray of light I held on to is that for the last 18 months, the BT OpenReach site has said my cabinet will be upgraded within six months.

    http://www.homeandwork.openreach.co.uk/OurNetwork/Superfast.aspx

I've logged on to this site every week hoping to see movement, and this week there was! But in the wrong direction. We've gone from "upgraded within six months" to "there are no plans to upgrade."

    It all seems so unfair.

At least the mobile coverage has upgraded from GPRS to 3G (outdoors, anyway), so thanks Vodafone :)

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to bore you to death for a few minutes.

Been with TalkTalk for a few years now but recently getting slow and unreliable broadband. Problem started about 9 months ago. Speed was about 12mbs and is now down to about 9. Latency and ping times are very, very high and connection regularly slows down and stops and then kicks back in. Three times it has been reported and had 2 talktalk engineers and 1 BT engineer. All saw and experienced the problem first hand and agreed that there was a problem.....TalkTalk engineer was useless and BT engineer reckoned it was a line problem. We are 2km away along a copper cable from FTTC.

I want to change supplier and hopefully get problem fixed.

My idea is to go with BT and if the changeover from TalkTalk doesn't get the problem fixed get them (as owners of the infrastructure) to fix the problem in the year of contract with them.

Sky would probably be worse than TalkTalk in fixing the problem at root cause.

Is this a reasonable course of action is my question...ie go with BT for a year at the best price I can get, and get them to fix root cuase and at the end of the years contract leave to another supplier for a better deal.

    Thanks

    Ken

I'm moving house and am looking at the Sky deals. How do I get hold of this wonderful £61 deal people are mentioning?

    Help gratefully received :)

I have noticed today that the SSE fibre broadband deal is removed from the main post under cheap broadband. I was wondering why is this? It seems to be still available on their website.

Somewhat agree with your post DavidP24, but is there another expanation, because, "We will never change our stance, or picks, because of commercial considerations." taken from your link.
