Evening all. It's that time... another TT discussion on broadband
Presently I have an old telephone/basic broadband deal with TT:
TalkTalk International Anytime: £15.81 (we make a lot of international calls to landlines & mobiles)
Broadband: £0.00
Line Rental: £17.70
Mobile Boost: £5.00
Call Waiting: £2.55
Total: (Less call charges): £41.06
With an actual Download speed of 0.9Mb; and an Upload speed of 0.5Mb, (as tested this evening), I called TT to discuss the possibility of fibre-optic broadband.... this is what I managed to haggle:
1st 12 months: £33.95
+12 months: £47.70
Breakdown like this: A[FONT="]n 18 month contract and total monthly cost for the 1st 12 months will be £33.95, (£3.75 Simply Broadband package + £7.50 anytime boost + £0.00 Fibre + £5.00 International boost + £17.70 line rental), and thereafter £47.70 (£7.50 package + £7.50 Anytime boost + £10 fibre +£5.00 International boost + £17.70 line rental). No connection fee. Free new router.
The questions are.... (apart of the benefit of having fibre-optic connection, which, allegedly, should DOUBLE my download/upload speeds - which shouldn't be too difficult!),
1. Do I need a fibre-optic connection - do I really need it?
2. I'll also have to pay an additional £2.55 for call waiting; and I'm not sure what's in the "Anytime Boost", i.e. I may have to pay an additional £5 boost for mobile numbers - which may raise the new TOTAL to £55.25 a month - £663 a yr as opposed to the present £407.40 a yr. (which is a lot of money as it is!).
So - those are my queries... what does anyone think? And does anyone have any experience of TT's fibre-optic broadband service.

When I looked into fibre with TT, their upload speed was capped at 2MB and was likely to be quite a bit lower. I think Plusnet has now capped theirs on the cheapest fibre package but not sure about BT and Sky.
TT was slower than Sky and O2 and consistently didn't implement the offers agreed on the phone until I eventually left and also got £50 compensation through their CEO complaints dept for the hassle, so I would look elsewhere if you can - I would look at the Plusnet deal for normal broadband or the BT deal for fibre: details at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband0 -
Thanks for that anactuary person
The "advertised speed" for TT's normal broadband is 17mb and for their fibre-optic is 38mb - so I was hoping to get more than 2mb out of it. But when I think about it - 2mb would be DOUBLE than my actual 1mb is at the moment - so at least that part of the conversation would be right
I'm tied in with the whole deal with TT - TT International Anytime is the telephone/broadband deal as a package. I'm reluctant to move away to another broadband provider because I'd lose such a great deal on the telephone side of things.
Thanks again.

Has anyone got the Love2Shop voucher switching from EE to TalkTalk?
The MSE page says "anyone switching from another provider", but the small print on the uswitch page only mentions BT Sky and PlusNet:
"£100 Love2shop voucher is only available to new SimplyBroadband, Essentials TV, Plus TV, Fibre Broadband, Essentials TV with Fibre and Plus TV with Fibre package customers who order online, switch from BT, Sky or Plus.net and keep their existing landline number. The voucher will be sent by courier or post to your registered address 28 days after broadband activation date. Offer ends 25/11/2015. "
(Sorry, can't post link)

@AnotherPaul - Its not the download speed he was referring to, you have said that was up to 38mb, he was referring to the upload speed of 2mb. Its your download speed that important not upload speed, unless you are torrenting.0

My guess is that everyone and their dog are trying to "leverage" the issue to get a better deal, and perhaps TT have decided to tough it out.
If moving, I ould have registered the 3rd party and allowed them to handle the switchover, rather than quitting the one to go to the other.
Forgive me if I seem a bit thick - but I've been with the same provider (AOL / Talk Talk) for years and have nevergone through the switching procedure. I'd appreciate some info on whether switching is straightforward (like bank account switches) and confirmation that I jst need to register with the new provider and they will handle all the nitty gritty stuff ? I can't risk being without a connection ! Any advice would be much appreciated.ELITE 5:2

Yes, Since June 2015 a new system has come into force. Now just contact your new ISP and they will do the rest to arrange the switch.
