    Amazing deal

And to think, I was planning to switch to BT Infinity but they increased their TopCashback so I cancelled with the intention of reordering at the higher rate. If TopCashback wasn't declined, it'd have worked out at an effective £9.68 per month.

However, I'm just off the phone to TalkTalk and my new 12 month contract includes a years line rental and Superpowered Fibre for a total cost of £60.

I thought it had to be a mistake but, obviously, your deal was better.

I'm happy enough though - no risk of a decline of cashback now.
Do check everything is as you expect. In the past I've agreed £132 for a year's line rental, paid by card, only to find the extra £40 on my next bill. A phone call to a manager did sort it but it was annoying to say the least. I've used this latest price hike to leave. They offered me a fibre deal (not as good as yours) but I told them their 2Mbps upload was a joke when most give nearer 10 and Plusnet give 20.

The best buys top deals are fantastic. I see BT fibre up to 38MB download limit 20GB for BT but I don't see BT fibre up to 76MB with totally unlimited usage every month to compare with the Virgin best buy deal for example.
I want to see and compare the deals like-with-like not just the best deal for this, the best deal that; for example, how does BT 38MB unlimited compare with the Talk-Talk 38MB unlimited deal; what are all the deals inbetween and up to 76MB unlimited?
This way I could compare across the board the pricing and variables to decide what is the most suitable and affordable for us as a family to bundle together (broadband/fibre, line rental included or not, calls included or not, TV and additional packages included or not, mobile included individual / family calls/text/data).
It's all good stuff just now but we need a more transparent comparison where we can switch in and switch out variables to present us the best combined deals across the board as we have today with MSE gas and electricity.
Best combined deal: Company A fibre, Company A line rental and inclusive calls, Company A TV, Company A mobile. Next best combined deal: Company A fibre, Company A line rental no calls, Company B TV, Company C mobile inclusive calls; and so forth.
Sure, we reach for the sky for the dreams we have today to be fulfilled by :money:tomorrow :D

    Hi all

I've been with VM since day dot...

I'm currently out of contract and am on the Big Easy bundle at £32.99 / month.

Well I've not switched on the TIVO in over 6 months - and I never use the landline nowadays.

I've just been reading about some amazing deals you guys have been getting! I really only need / want broadband - but I understand it may be cheaper to take another service - i.e. landline & broadband. I have a couple of ntlworld email addresses which I use a lot - so I am kinda tied to them :-/

If I say I want to cancel will they immediately close down those email addresses and wipe any associated web space? I seem to recall I threatened to leave many many years ago (cable & wireless days) and they did just that the same day!

I wondered what would likely be achievable from VM by cancelling (or at least threatening to cancel!)?

    Thanks!

If you dont need telephone and tv, then it will be cheaper for you to just take the broadband on its own with VM. Althou it doesn't save much, it at least saves some.

You could also go via VM retentions, saying you are thinking of cancelling, and they may offer you a better deal to stay.

if you move away from VM, you will need to have a landline, as its required for other broadband services, VM is the only one that doesn't need one

Anyone manage to get a Sky code that they don't want? I only just saw the deal and would have been great for my mum who has never had internet before. Thanks.
  • Just tried to signup to the latest MSE Blagged SKY broadband bundle after receiving my offer code.
There's a 'catch' - It's NOT offered in my area.
The catch is that you have to be in the 'SKY Network Area'.

That means I am not in their area (i.e. my exchange is monopolised by BT).
The deal only gives half price line rental for 12 on an 18 month contract. Broadband costs £17 p.m. and is NOT unlimited download but what SKY call 'SKY Connect'.

Also, there's no confirmation of the £100 credit to your account.
I can still save £132 over 18 months but the deal breaker is lack of unlimited broadband.

Shame really otherwise it was a no brainer to switch.

Beware that MSE fibre best buy (at time of writing) of plus.net at 38Mb/s download speed is now not nearly so good.

They've quietly reduced the upload speed by 90% (NINETY PERCENT), from 20 to 1.9 Mb/s from June 17th for new customers.

Upload speed bizarrely isn't mentioned once in MSE's broadband article. But it is important for all sorts of things like Skype type apps, photo uploads, P2P, etc. and should be built into your decision making.

I very nearly got tripped up by this.

Looks like you now need the fibre extra to get 19.5Mbps upload. The new 1.9 upload speed is the same as TalkTalk. Plusnet's upload speed was one of the reasons I chose them.

I hadn't realised the upstream was now slower on the 38Mbps product. I couldn't really justify the 76Mbps I decided to stay on when taking a retention deal but did so as I get 70Mbps+ and the saving would have only been £2.50 a month (they price matched SSE). The higher upstream alone justifies £2.50 a month.

I have just signed up with Virgin Media after reading your Best Buy (Fibre). Using the Uswitch link, it has now changed to £5 pm for 12 months on a 12 month contract + monthly line rental of £16.99 as before. Thats a further saving of £42, not including any additional saving when paying line rental up-front.

It's worth remembering that most ISP's, (including EE unfortunately) will pass on the line disconnection / cessation / cancellation charge of about £30 when leaving the 'BT Openreach' network & moving to a cable network. I think this likely cost should be mentioned in any VM best buy listings.... because I forgot!

Oh, and CLI (caller display) was free with EE, after some digging on their website, it's another £2.25pm at VM. Hmmm.
