Following my post enquiring about any VM deals for broadband only - I received a private message from a company calling themselves 'Virgin Media Partners'. They said they can offer me a 20% discount on VM products including broadband only. On visiting their site I was immediately prompted to enter my user ID & password. Hmmmmmm!!

I suspect this is a phishing attempt. Anyone else heard from this lot?

    Cheers!

Oh, and CLI (caller display) was free with EE, after some digging on their website, it's another £2.25pm at VM. Hmmm.
I think it isn't even available in some areas either.

If you use your landline, want caller id and other features and are on VM then your cheapest option is going to be a VOIP product. When I moved to VM I took the phone line as that meant a free install but once my minimum term was up I cancelled the phone. That only resulted in a £3 saving in itself but with the caller id charge too that went a long way towards paying for the Vonage VOIP UK package.

When I eventually got fed up with VMs constant price hike / call for reduction but new minimum term tricks coupled with the months it took them to fix local congestion issues which cropped up twice in just over 3 years with them and moved back to a BT line based product (Plusnet fibre) I stuck with Vonage as it was no more expensive once call features were considered.

If you want to save on VM then use a cashback site such as Quidco or TopCashBack to sign up.

BB only will only save a small amount - make sure you don't have to pay extra on setup to get it or that will wipe out any savings made. You can always cancel the phone once your minimum term is up. Sometimes it's actually cheaper to take phone + BB than just BB with VM.

Incidentally Virgin Media Partners appear to be genuine.

First off I tried logging in with totally bogus details and it told me they were incorrect - most phishing sites won't do that but simply let you move on to divulge more info.

I then looked up the domain registrant....

  • Hi,

I received my paperwork from Sky today.

Terms are updated from the website version of 18 month contract on Line and Talk packages and the letter confirms that :-

Unlimited Broadband, Talk Weekend and Line rental are all subject to a initial 12 month contract. You are free to leave after this.

It appears that all new accounts between 1st May 2015 and 30th June 2015 are all subject to £100 bill credit. After this date you get £100 worth of Love2Shop Gift Vouchers.

All looking good at the moment but as we all know, The proof is in the pudding! Turning on next Friday (3rd July) I shall report and update with any issues

So perhaps I should have changed to Plusnet Fibre or simply upgraded to EE Fibre rather than VM?
No doubt I'll be back on here in 12 months time if they don't perform and/or they try to hike price too much at renewal!

Look at the deals on MSE but when you ring sky to cancel the TV, say you're looking at switching phone+broadband as well and see if they offer something to retain you. Common offers have been free broadband and maybe some account credit.

Just leveraged Plusnet increase of land line price to break my contract with them, for free (I had 6 months left out of my 18 month contract, so no more active discounts).

I was now paying £37 a month with them between unlimited FTTC and land line.

Found a BT Infinity deal as follow:

    £12.50 a month (12 month contract only)
    -£84 cashback (TopCashBack)
-£100 Sainsbury voucher (I shop there anyway)
    +£42 installation/router delivery
    = £0.70 per month!

Line rental saver: equivalent of £15.25 per month when paid upfront.

    Total per month: £15.95

So a saving of £21 a month! I am happy, and I will get a much better router with integrated modem (the one from Plusnet was very basic, and also needed a separate BT modem), and free BT Wifi everywhere in the UK

Do you need to speak to Plusnet to leave with no penalty? - I know TalkTalk require contact first. I have been considering BT as well but haven't had email from Plusnet yet.
