  • Nsd 5 for me today,, I've been in work all day.
Had chicken salad from home for lunch, it was lovely, and a yoghurt, then pulled pork rolls for tea.

The past few days have been a but spendy, DD needed a raincoat, so I bought her one of those, and she also needed new glasses after her optician appointment, as her head has grown! That cost me an unexpected £59!!

I'm having a really down day, and your quotes are really helping mothernerd, I haven't been able to catch up on sleep since coughing all night last week, which in turn has made me irritable, grumpy and I'm just not functioning very well. It's my own fault because I've had to many things planned in a short space of time.
I'm even thinking about selling my half marathon place for 2 weeks time to give myself a chance to recover.

I'm led in bed now and plan on sleeping asap, as next door keep waking me at 4.30am coming home from work!

Today I am grateful for lovely food, dh for tidying as he knows in tired, and a for a sale in work.

Nothing else to declare so I'm off to the land of nod!

It's entirely possibly I'm speaking out of my backside here, but if DD is under 16 aren't there NHS vouchers for children's glasses? I only mention this as I more often than not buy my own specs from the children's section as I think adult ones are too big on me  and last time I looked they said "free for kids, £xx for adults" or words to that effect, on them. Not sure if you could get a rebate?

Checking in for today. A no spend day except for stuff for my market baking which I keep seperate. Just an average day at work where `i ate well (salad for lunch, bbq for dinner) and was very busy. I have three days of quite intensive baking in my spare time ahead of me in order to be ready for Saturday.
My poor DH and DS are really bunged up with terrible hayfever. I don't suffer myself (at least not directly just through broken nights as DH snuffles and snores).

Im grateful for my job at the moment which is enabling us to survive whilst DH hasn't got work.
    Trying to keep in budget.

LavenderBee I'm not going to go on about baby weights - mine were all small and I highly recommend small babies. But PLEASE stay close to home (even when the new phone arrives). To be honest I don't think it would be a case of someone driving 40 minutes each way to collect you, you would probably end up in the nearest facilty, knowing no-one and not knowing if/ when your partner would arrive (Ds1 arrived 3 weeks early, my partner had gone off to a conference and I went off to a strange hospital, alone in the middle of the night - they wouldn't even believe I was in labour until about an hour before he was born).

I approve of the furniture plan but it could be achieved with baby's help or just wee on it and blame your post baby body.

My mother learnt to swim when she was 40. The class was held in a small pool, most of the class were middle aged and the instructor was kind and very patient and helpful. I started a bit later and finally learned to swim at the age of 21 (tried at school, could float on my back a bit but never managed to do a whole length - in the small pool it was one side, across the width and back up the other side a bit).

Most important you do not need to put your face in the water. I need to wear my glasses as I am so short-sighted that I am more likely to bash my head in the side of the pool than drown. Very important not to pass phobias on - all my sons love slides and never knew that even the thought of going on one is enough to knock me sick. But I think you should try again to address your fear - our baby pool has wide shallow steps you can sit on (water barely covers your thighs) and I have also been to a pool which had several areas including a 'jacuzzi type' bit , warm and deep enough to sit down but very secure. Just thinking your baby swim classes might require you to hold and support your child and you could do with being a bit more comfortable with the water.

Okay. Sunday I did not sleep until 2am as I was determined to finish my room. Stopped at 2am as I had been nodding off for some time. I had cleared 4/5 of the bed (but had to put some things on the floor). Slightly annoyed with myself but not feeling great (lots of hurty bits and dizzy) so glad to have done some.

Monday went to mum's though arm and shoulder still very bad - later on I tried to do some of her latest jigsaw and got to the stage where I could not pick up the pieces with my right hand. Have been given today off, which is great but also much needed.

Slept and woke well (have re-read all the notes and adjusted the way I calculate things). Supposed to put down the time you 'wake for the last time' and I have been putting 6- 6.30am because by then it is light and I usually take my morning pills. I generally take lots of water but sometimes I carry on and do the 'getting up' things and sometimes I go back to sleep again. This morning my knees were 'creaky', dizziness was still there, arm and shoulder were still painful (had to switch to using left hand to put pills in my mouth) and I had a painful headache. Experience has taught me that some of these are due to 'too little sleep' and some things will improve if I drink lots of water and have more sleep. I don't think about my 'ailments' much but wrote it all down this am as there seems to be an assumption that once awake, you should 'spring' out of bed whereas I find easing my way into the day (and listening to my body) helps me be more productive and less reliant on painkillers later on.

Anyway once I had completed the getting up process, I have dealt with all the paper, rubbish and recycling I have removed from my room, done 3 loads of washing and continued plodding with my room. Including turning one set of shelves sideways, moving the bed across about a foot which allowed my to put 2 of the cube boxes into the lowest cubes (Xmas decorations) and then reverse the process.

Really wanted my bed a couple of times. I'm not supposed to get into/ on the bed until it's bedtime but I went downstairs and stretched out on the spare bed to unkink my back (still to do clearing the little couch in there).

Anyway the end is in sight (lots of craft stuff into plastic wallets) and just the few awkward cubes to sort (2 the bedpost is in the way and 2 end below the level of the bed so I can't fit a full cube in those. They are the most important ones as they perform bedside tabel functions (hold pills, water, cup, glasses, laptop, diary, purse etc) so will juggle with smaller boxes. Should already have the laptop switched off and be trying to go to sleep but will accept the modified (mothernerd) version for now. Missing out on reading time.

I'm also struggling with hayfever. Explosive sneezing, sore throat, stuffed up sinuses and this is with antihistamines.

Today I am grateful for being given leftovers (noodles and onions with some curry sauce - will pot it up and have it tomorrow), for the crafts making sense (culmination of months of work, just getting it in order now) and a good book to read (and the spare bed, was ready to cry)

Mothernerd thank you so much for your kind words. The fact that your message was so personal to me and you had remembered facts about me and my life, made me feel so looked after and cared for and I really needed that today. I massively appreciate it!

    Hi all :j

A Ask yourself 'Is this necessary?' Before purchasing anything. Food purchases today, plus a small spend in CS.. When you make a 'to do' list (is it realistic or even possible);nothing done off todo list today but will get to it tomorrow

J June challenge runs from 1st June to 30th. Aiming for tough target. Still 8/20

U Use the food you have in the cupboards, fridge and freezer to base your meals on. Meal plan (for the month or for a few days at a time, whichever suits). Cook from scratch (short cuts permitted if you are feeling stressed) food made from stores & a portion leftovers - either for DD when she comes off shift, or she can take it for a lunch tomorrow.

N No takeaways, coffee, chip or pie shop purchases. Nope.

E Eating well is a form of self respect. Good today, have also lost a lb, goodness knows how. Just need to lose the rest now!!

O Offer help and encouragement to other turtles and people you meet. Be kind to everyone, especially yourself. Waves pompoms wildly encouragingly!! was kind to work colleague today, although he has many problems that make him difficult to work alongside - I tried to be understanding & am always polite to him.

D Debt or savings payments should be made first - live on what is left No debt other than cc I use for all purchases to get rewards - which is paid off in full every month. Will need to get the cc bill down during the month with payments made daily (PAD thread) to avoid large bill at end of month. Another Daily PAD..

E Exercise according to your programme or your ability. Minimum of 3 times a week. Try to get outside every day. Outside just late, sadly to water the garden yet again, please can we have some rain..

S Set all your budgets before the start of the month. Food, travel, social, diy, other. Have all receipts in shoebox awaiting DH revival of spreadsheet..maybe tomorrow as out today. More receipts into shoebox...still not done. Another receipt into shoebox..

S Someone, somewhere is worse off than you. Donate to the local food bank or other charity of your choice. Clear some of your clutter and donate the goods to charity. Will be amassing stuff to take to CS as I clear the clutter; also intend to sell better items to pay for hols booked for August. Have taken big bag of books to our CS; the amount of stuff to sort was the most I've ever seen...

E Every day check in is recommended, especially when things go wrong. 12/30 here I am..

You are the most important person in your life. You are your own longest term investment. You matter. Read this and the daily quotes, take on anything you find relevant and helpful, ditch the rest. Reading, learning & inwardly digesting. Feeling more positive on the whole, I will do this..

Hope you are feeling better Fmess, please look after yourself..

    Go turtles

Thank you mothernerd - to be honest 40 minutes is the least of my problems for me; DH is posted 3-5 hours away during the week, every week. Only home for weekends. I am very much relying on getting pre-labour symptoms and a slow early stage so I can get in contact with him and he can arrange to come home. Thankfully he has been allowed to keep his phone on him; in his last posting he was incommunicado all day, and further away to boot. I have arranged to go to a low risk unit (providing baby bee doesn't go too far over :() which is a 40 minute drive away minimum anyway. Everyone is so keen that you stay at home in early labour but I will base my decision about when to leave around traffic too. My relatives are an hour away in traffic before they could even collect me, but I have lovely neighbours who have offered a lift if things move too quickly! DH and I are going to get army accommodation together this year, we've had enough of the logistical issues of being apart.

With regard to swimming; those classes sound perfect! As it stands i wouldn't take our child myself, DH will have to. I couldn't bring myself to take our baby into a body of water right now. I need to deal with my own issues separately first. When we move I am hoping that the local pool will have something like that on offer. However did you know I fear getting my face wet? ;) I can't even wash my face in the shower, isn't that ridiculous?!I

I hope your sleep is more successful tonight; I have accepted my bizarre pattern and get a (decaf) tea and biscuit after 5, read for an hour then usually find i can get a second "burst". I have given up feeling guilty about this. I'm actually awake from 3 onwards but that is the cat's fault and a totally different story... Before I wouldn't allow myself to go back, I would try and spring out of bed into action at 6am. That was fine except i was then ready to keel over by 11.
