The kids have Halifax Young Saver accounts and some bright spark at the Halifax has decided to take away the atm card which came with the account so they can't get cash out and have no way of identifying themselves in branch. Have had to change the accounts to one with a debit card which DD thinks is fab.
Oh is that what they were up to! I wondered why they were removing the atm card, they want them to upgrade to debit card and then they will stick with the bank when they are earning! Foolish bank to think that is how to get loyalty from MSE Turtle offspring. I am absolutely NOT giving an 8 yr old a debit card, but then again, how is that really different to the atm card? Hmm. Will have to have a think on that one. It might just be my head screaming NOooooo whereas it is not much different to what they have already apart from them being able to do contactless .... boo! Just one more thing to think about.
I shall wait until it is particularly busy and then take all 4 in and make them do it while people tut. :rotfl:

NSD 7/30
Just back from Mr T's and everything was YS. even 18 bottles of bud for £4. spent under a tenner and have lots of slightly boshed tins of coconut milk and cannelini and beans and fruit. Plus 12 bottles of fizzy water.
Hooray for boshed tins, and slightly squashed cardboard boxes, and split multipacks.
I spent yesterday in my back yard, potted up all the tomato plants and courgette plants and sunflowers that I have grown from seed I already had, and YS compost from months ago. Cleaned, cleared, and have made it a much nicer place. Swept up and got rid of about 75% of the rubbish. Repurposed a lot of old plumbing bits and bobs into planters (previous deceased owner of the house was a bodger plumber) now I have weirdly shaped but perfectly practical plant pots. I probably have another hour out there before it is totally ship shape, but what on earth do I do with lengths of downpipe that are over 10 feet tall? So that can be another project.
And the sun is shining and DH is making lunch.

Checking in again from the airport, this time waiting for the flight home. I have had a super weekend, partied hard with excellent friends. I also didn't spend too much so that's a bonus. I will probably have to buy something to eat on the journey as I shan't get home until 20.30 at the earliest.
Also good was that all my stuff sold at the market so that's another £100 (give or take) to add to the kitty.Trying to keep in budget.

Have made along list of things to do next week but achievable, I think, because some of them will only take minutes. Phone calls, emails etc but I'll feel more in control once I've done them. Tomorrow I'm going tot buy some freezable containers and batch cook curries and bolognese for the Boy and take them to put them into his freezer. Going to his flat on Tuesday to unpack, wash up and put away things in his kitchen. He is really so lucky. The flat is in walk in condition. No need to decorate or carpet and the lady who sold it has cleaned from top to bottom so just a wipe over as things are being put away. They also left some beautiful light fittings and all the curtains and black out blinds. Goodness, I remember moving into a house where the previous owners had taken everything including the light bulbs. He's a really luck lad.
So today, roast chicken dinner. lots will be left for tomorrow and the carcass to make stock.
Mothernerd - Your trip sounds amazing, I would love to see the terracotta warriors.
Indigo I've never tried the envelope system but my late Mother did it all the time (probably come from when they didn't have bank accounts). I take the food budget, paper money (would actually not do this but it's a local teenager delivering the local paper and I want to encourage her to have a bit of independence) and the window cleaner (not very MSE but they are too high for me to reach) out of the bank in cash and everything else is paid by direct debit . Whatever works best for you.
Hugs, everyone. xxxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Hi everyone
Another busy day today, I don't usually do too much on a Sunday but at the lottie day yesterday I met someone who I worked with years ago and she invited me to her allotment site for a look around and a drink. Yes they have a little caf! and the drinks, cakes, biscuits, toast and crumpets were all free!!! Couldn't get over it, although I just had a cup of tea lol. We haven't got anything like that on our site, I just have a camping stove and take cold toast with me!!!!
Anyway, I had to drop some stuff off on the way to another friend and then when I finally got back home (after going to my lottie) I had a message to say some relatives were calling in on their way home from somewhere, this is a one off day I usually see nobody!!
So 3/10 sfd for me.
Home cooked food all day.
Had a lovely conversation with relations.
Caught up with friends
and got some exercise at the lottie, so a win win day for me.
Hope everyone has had a good positive day

Today has been an NSD. I did go to Morrisons but my friend paid for lunch.
I have decided to delay envelope budgetting until I have moved out. There has been a few thefts and staff have advised me to not have lots of cash which is unfortunate but going to put my food on a seperate card.No Spend November 2/15 and SPC 1340 -
DawnW well done on listening to your body when you needed to rest
Kerry Woman glad you fitted some relaxing activities in as well as the 5k

sashanut sorry for your sad news, be extra kind to yourself
ccl Feeling tearful always has a reason, lots of hugs
nannygladys what a great day at the allotment
greent children's chats are never convenient, but it's much better if they talk rather than bottling it up
f0xh0les well done on letting your kids chill out. Love the troublemaker.
Are the downpipes metal or plastic? If they can be easily cut into lengths, I've seen them used a planters (group them but vary the heights). The man who always won at Chelsea with his vegetables used them to grow leeks and carrots (long and straight). Make a stack and use as a base for seating (or 'mushroom' seats if you can attach a slice of wood to the top).
Dig a hole, plant them upright and add plantpots and holders all round (or bottom half of plastic bottles or milk bottles - if you cut them in 2 and make a funnel of the top half by inverting it, you should be able to water from the top and let it trickle down. Do you do runner beans? They do well with a 10' centre pole with strings attached (an old bike wheel is good for spacing) coming down to the ground.
Can you make some sort of slide or 'adventure playground' tyoe of equipment (involve the boys, they will have ideas). Good for racing cars down if one end is propped up. Fill with sticks/ bamboo and other materials to make bug/ bee hotels or a hedghog hide.
Littleskintdragon getting a small debt out of the way can give you a boost
lindez good to have a plan for clothes sorting
indigo just keep plodding and try your best to be kind to yourself (see today's quotes). Stick to your plan an dtry to drop the worry
Toni'sfriend isn't it lovely when you have visible space. My first house had no bathroom and the sink (chipped enamel top) had been used to mix concrete.

Evening all
Beautiful day today
Ask if it is necessary - Trying hard with this
June - Still on 4/10 NSDs. Did some shopping today, plus some bargainous car boot purchases which will save money further down the line - foil freezer trays and household candles for pennies. Also a dress for £1, and a pot to replace a broken one in the garden.
Use what you have - Continuing my mission to empty my freezers. Chicken and HM fruit pie filling used from there today
No takeaways etc - None
Eating - Not bad today, if you ignore the fruit crumble I made for pudding. But it contained fruit, right?
Offer help and encouragement to others - Will do.
D - No debt now. Savings are paid by standing order at the beginning of the month.
Exercise - Walked around 2 car boot sales and did some gardening today - definitely feeling on the mend :T
Set budgets - Done.
Someone, somewhere - Still haven't done food bank donation. Hope to do it tomorrow.
Every day - Not managed every day, but I'm here now
Y - So grateful that I am now getting better!0
