I kept forgetting to take the money out of the envelopes and then forgot to 'balance' the envelopes. And generally got myself in such a pickle - and yes, I managed that within a few days! It was causing me more stress and anxiety than it was worth, so I ditched it. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't work, it just ain't for me. Good luck with it!

    Hi everyone
Just got back from watering down the lottie. It was our open day today so I was there this morning buying some plants to replace non growers of mine, anyway got what I needed and at a fraction of shop costs. People wanted to give them to me but its for charity so said no!!
Went shopping for food at A@d@ and should be OK for the next week. My food budget isn't a set one as such Im just keeping it as low as possible, it what works for me.
Indigowarrior, my DD1 does the envelope system and it works fine for her, well its all kept in labelled jars in her pantry, I followed it for a while but we all have to go with what works best for us and then stick with it, so I have my own system.

Signing off, hope everyone has had a positive Saturday and the sun has been shining on you all

  • Evening everyone,

I'm going to count today as NSD #4 even though I received my online shopping from Tesco. I was going to add that towards my spends today but have noticed that there are 12 items missing and I'm currently on hold to them to get that sorted. They also tried to give me someone else's Coke Zero which I handed back and after the driver left I discovered cleaning wipes and toilet cleaner that I hadn't ordered. I'm not very impressed particularly because they also got it wrong on my last shop and put some bacon in my shopping (I'm a Muslim and it's Ramadan :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:).

Anyhoo apart from that I sent £4.90 to my EF (£26.81 added to date) and read a bit of my book.

    Hi all :j

A Ask yourself 'Is this necessary?' Before purchasing anything. Did make a couple of purchases today to do with a hobby - we went to a FH fair, so membership was at a discount & I got a couple of books..When you make a 'to do' list (is it realistic or even possible); No clearing for me today, worked out that I haven't been across the door since Tuesday (!) when I did my stint in CS & then a went shopping....

J June challenge runs from 1st June to 30th. Aiming for tough target. Still 6/20 so far..

U Use the food you have in the cupboards, fridge and freezer to base your meals on. Meal plan (for the month or for a few days at a time, whichever suits). Cook from scratch (short cuts permitted if you are feeling stressed) HM tea from stocks in except for a cauli which I bought, along with a few bits fromtthe shop was the size of a football pitch, & the lady in front of me spent £150+....

N No takeaways, coffee, chip or pie shop purchases. Did have lunch out at the fair, was horrible & a waste of £8..well the cups of tea were OK...should have taken my own..

E Eating well is a form of self respect. Couldn't eat the food at the fair; but made HM food when we got back which was simple but very tasty.

O Offer help and encouragement to other turtles and people you meet. Be kind to everyone, especially yourself. Waves pompoms wildly encouragingly!! Good day today although was awake a lot of the night, was still determined to go & glad I did. Hope all turtles are feeling OK, go you!

D Debt or savings payments should be made first - live on what is left No debt other than cc I use for all purchases to get rewards - which is paid off in full every month. Will need to get the cc bill down during the month with payments made daily (PAD thread) to avoid large bill at end of month. Daily PAD..

E Exercise according to your programme or your ability. Minimum of 3 times a week. Try to get outside every day. Out a couple of times, the last time to water all the plants, don't like doing that, flipping hate the hose which kinks all the time..

S Set all your budgets before the start of the month. Food, travel, social, diy, other. Have all receipts in shoebox awaiting DH revival of spreadsheet..maybe tomorrow as out today. More receipts into shoebox

S Someone, somewhere is worse off than you. Donate to the local food bank or other charity of your choice. Clear some of your clutter and donate the goods to charity. Will be amassing stuff to take to CS as I clear the clutter; also intend to sell better items to pay for hols booked for August. Have taken photos of shoes & will list tomorrow. Donation made to vets bill; patient is slightly improved, but I think they have found he is very ill..sad to say he is not gonna make it, but the vets bill still had to be paid..

E Every day check in is recommended, especially when things go wrong. 9/30 here I am..

You are the most important person in your life. You are your own longest term investment. You matter. Read this and the daily quotes, take on anything you find relevant and helpful, ditch the rest. Reading, learning & inwardly digesting. Working on this...

Indigo I lasted about a week as I struggled with carrying cash. Or at least not having money in my account . I didn't realise how often I needed to pay with card. But I do keep a list of what money is for what. For example it might say my account has 200 in it, 150 groceries , 50 fuel. Just to keep it simple.

I am full of beans this morning- yesterday I finally caught up on my washing. (I did use the drier but I needed it all done really else I would still be doing it next week) & now things are back to normal. I feel recharged. I called next & our holiday provider to chase refunds that we really could do with , made rhubarb crumble with our home grown rhubarb& sat down & uploaded all my photos on to the computer & ordered my favorite ones.the big challenge next weekend is to put them all in my scrap book /make the boys a collage.

Today I am going to look over my race for life info , go for a run & have a long bath & read my book. I do not sleep well if I don't unwind and so I am prioritizing this.

Tomorrow I am back to my free baby group :D& back on my diet :( It gets the kids out of the house & they often send us home with free food left over from snack. & I will be going YS shopping in the evening.

Grateful for - my kids outdoor picnic table ,my hub fixing my Hoover AGAIN, my boys finally getting a good nights sleep and in turn their devils horns have now disappeared too :A

Yesterday was a NSD taking me to 5 so far.
DD wanted make up so she used her own money - I have opened her a bank account of her own which Child Benefit will be transferred to and then she can spend when she wants.

Today may have some spends as collecting DS from Uni and this usually involves a trip to McDonalds.

Good morning turtles. Sorry to abandon you last night. Got n the house at 6pm, ate, fired up the laptop, fell asleep over the laptop (several times) and was asleep shortly after 8pm.

Mum and I had a lovely day. Terracotta Warriors were amazing, lots of information and things to look at (cooking pots, jewellery, typical weapons). I said mum could have the guide book if she wanted one - I wouldn't get it before we went in as it was half an inch thick and heavy quality paper. I said she wouldn't want to carry it round, she said 'No, I'd give it to you to carry' (in addition to just under 6l of drinks, sandwiches, fruit, glasses, purse, reading book + her umbrella and other things I was carrying in one small backpack and one small bag for life.

Money was spent - the book and a terracotta warrior (not the life size one mum wanted - £750 for a crouching archer and £1500 for the standing 'officer'). She went outside and let me queue (full length of the room). I have paid for the things bought. I gave them to her and said it was her birthday present. She will probably give me £20 back so I'm not adding to my spending yet (should really come out of the August budget).

We looked at the dinosaurs and a few other things and ate more of our food in the 'picnic area' (a very messy room but lots of small children and I do remember how great it was to find somewhere that it 'didn't matter' if the children made a mess). Loved the hands on room where you could pat dinosaur heads and snake skins if you were so inclined. A small boy of about 4 was opening a succession of drawers with great relish - 'What's in here - SQUIRRELS, What's in here - RATS'. His mother laughed at my 'roadkill' comment, the exhibits were rather flattened (and under glass in those cases).

We had already been in the library (great toilets) and looked at their Audobon collection and an exhibition based on the 200th anniversary of the publication of Frankenstein. Mum really doesn't get modern art (or any art really, she thinks Hockney's could be done by children and loves the local art club offerings which look just like the things they are supposed to be (no they don't, they are flat and lifeless). I read out some of the ideas behind some of the work, in the vague hope that she might 'get it', not sure she did but she didn't pull faces. Some very interesting (some slightly gruesome) and some truly beautiful pieces - luckily the one I liked best was one of the few NFS, not for sale.

We sat in the park and ate ice cream - I had noted earlier that there was only one or two seagulls and they were normal sized (not like the monster that snatched mum's 2 months ago) and then we decided (bold move) to walk down to the 'front' (pier head and Albert Dock). It nearly killed us both. We followed the signs and sat down a couple of times.

Liverpool was blisteringly hot all day (one reason for the walk - I would have cooked after quarter of an hour in the park). We were lucky enough to find a vacant bench by the water, shaded by two trees and people watched for a while.

I was pretty sure I could find a quicker way back - just walking towards the Liver Building cut off a corner (an 8 sided corner) and when we turned up (going off the direction I knew we should be going) I found a bus stop with a real map, which confirmed my instincts. We used the library toilets again (going back in the museum would have meant going through bag search again) and it was so cool in there, we found a sofa to sit on until the time the coach was expected.

Not planning on moving much today, my ankles are still weak but the soles of my feet are much better. I woke naturally at 5.30. Thought I could hear a gang of lads on their way home from last night but realised it must be the council(?) workmen setting up for today. It's the 'music festival' - so probably a couple of locals who've been on talentless shows, my ex health trainer who's won awards for his country music songs, think there was a school who had a steel band last year and a load of prepubescent girls doing bad karioke with accompanying inappropriate dance moves. At least it appears I won't have people on bouncy slides going past my window. For new turtles I live in the town centre on the edge of a car park, two other sides have the sides of the library and Town Hall bordering them and the civic square (fronts of library and town hall) is diagonally across from me. When there are events on, they frequently have a funfair. If there are stalls or other activities on the civic square, they use the car park for the rides so only the length of my back yard and the back away from me.

It's great when the fireworks are on (turning on the Christmas lights) as I get a front row seat, perching on the edge of my bed (and when I was ill a couple of years ago, I could watch them doing all the 'setting up' - free entertainment.

For yesterday I am grateful for lovely weather (and lovely suncream to keep me safe), for all the lovely thought-provoking and interesting things we saw (including the Hillsborough memorial), for not buying any food or drink, apart from ice creams, all day, for having sorted mum's birthday present out, for most of my body being mostly working and not hurting (much). Right, I need a bath and food and then to get this room sorted (finding my sleep 'diary' and getting it filled in would help).

  • Sounds like you had a great day Mothernerd

I finally have a budget in place I am happy with. I keep forgetting there is seven months left of the year. Today I am staying in my pyjamas and playing a relaxing farming game. I have some bread defrosting for lunch and hopefully will have a sausage baguette. Hope everyone has a great day :)
