Oh dear I'm very boring as I love asparagus steamed with melted butter on the top, yummy! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

There is a recipe in a good food mag somewhere, if I can find it I'll post the whole thing but the simple version was:
Some sort of malty bread dough (uncooked) rolled out to about 8" square (approx.)
Ricotta cheese spread onto the top of the dough
Asparagus chopped in 1/2 or 1/3rds layed out along the top.
Roll it all up like a jam roll
bake
slice and serve with tomato sauce.
I saw it and it looked really nice but I never got around to trying it.
BTW - Lidl have asparagus at 1/2 price at the mo. Think it's 74p for a bunch. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
Ooooooo that sounds yummy Galtizz ... as do a lot of the other suggestions here!
I used half the bunch yesterday (yeah I'm greedy) and made a stir-fry, which was really nice, so I'm going to try out one of the above suggestions with the rest of it

Many thanks for all your suggestions, so far I've tried to make the risotto, only to find that my risotto rice was 4 years out of date, so had to hastily turn it into asparagus carbonara - which was actually really nice! And have also had it steamed with butter and parmesan - mmmm!0

You should have stuck with the risotto rice!!!! ... unless it was crawling with bugs that is, as it doesn't actually go out of date"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I was going to risk it, but I'd just read the posts on here about all the nasty things that can start living in rice! Plus it smelt really odd! Can't describe it! I WILL make the risotto though, just need to remember to buy the rice!0

Im an asparagus virgin and really fancy trying some. Ive seen Jamie Oliver cooking it a sprinkling lemon on it etc but how do most people eat it? Does it always need a dressing of some sort and what sort of meal do you serve it with?0

Cook it...base in water and flowery bits in steam, (an asparagus pan is great but you can improvise with an ordinary pan and tinfoil) until there is just a little 'bite' left. Time varies according to thickness. Serve on its own as a starter with loads of melted butter poured on, a squeeze of lemon, fresh ground sea salt and fresh ground black pepper. Serving it simply is the only way of apreciating the delicate flavour imho.
It must be English!!!!! And you must eat it with your fingers with a big napkin tucked round your neck!!!♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -
I see that cooking time varies - but give us a clue... about how long... ish ?
Sort of... approximately... roughly...
Just thought... could I stand the asparagus in a small water filled container and stand that in my pan?
