If you apply for our Platinum Barclaycard with Barclays Blue Rewards card and are an existing Barclays current account customer, you could receive £1 cashback per month for up to 24 months from account opening, if you join (if you have not already) Barclays Blue Rewards.

My card isn't "Platinum with Barclays Blue Rewards"
Sorry- I was making incorrect assumptions! If you switching into Barclays then maybe worth applying for the card with blue rewards once the a/c is open.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

When into branch to switch my N/wide account into Barclays to get double blue rewards.

Total waste of time. It could have been done via a phone call as I told the advisor.

Just about sums this offer up.

I just ended up with a second current account, but no switch. :(

That happened to me as well after I tried to do the switch online. I assume that you you tried online as well.

Try complaining and asking for compensation. I did this a few weeks ago and got some money.

When speaking to customer services to complain, ask to speak to someone from the UK. It work everytime as long as you do it between 0800-to-2000 hrs.

With regards switching, you can only do this via a branch appointment. Just tell them that you just want to switch accounts and you DO NOT WISH to discuss anything else.

    Yep.

I ended up using the extra account to switch to Natwest and did it all online!

I can't be faffing about visiting the branch to do something as steaightforward as switching banks.

  • I went to a Barclays branch last week to complete my current account application (started online) and to initiate the switch. Took about 45 minutes in total to complete the deed. Switching my NatWest current account opened in January this year for the £125 switch bonus. Came away with about 50 pages of printed paperwork and 3 glossy brochures with full t and c's, bank charges/overdraft rates and idiot's guide to running the Barclays current account. Amazing waste of paper, all can be read online. Got talked into taking out a Barclaycard credit card. If you use it just it once (or more) in a calendar month and meet the blue rewards qualifying criteria that month on your current account, you get an extra £1 reward for using the credit card.

Totally agree. That is one of the reasons that I complained and got compensation.

It is very easy to do in branch as long as you have a current account with Barclays. My meeting took around 15 mins. The idiot tried to suggest a B/card and emphasis Contactless bank. I just politely ignored him by looking at the floor.

This sort of thing shouldn't be allowed.

I guessed that it was going to be a sales pitch so that is why I deliberately limited what he was going to say and then deliberately ignored him when he started mentioning B/card and contactless payments. Is this the behaviour of the Go To bank ?

    Mmmm...No.

If you don't want B/card (and there are a lot of better deals as promoted on MSE), just cancel it and go elsewhere.
