OP do you not have any other documentation other than the box stating the IMEI number, not sure if you do get any other documentation mind, you tried T mobile to see if the IMEI number matchesNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

unfortunatly you could get stung because the proof you have is purely speculative really.
its unfortunate you didnt note the IMEI but thats hindsight for you. for other sellers its also handy to mark removable items like batteries with UV pen to prevent swap out0 -
Spot on he could have give you the box what he got with the broke phoneOP do you not have any other documentation other than the box stating the IMEI number, not sure if you do get any other documentation mind, you tried T mobile to see if the IMEI number matches

Ring T-Mobile and ask them for the original IMEI number if they have it. If it matches the phone you have then you're pretty much gonna have to give the little sh*t his money back
I have a feeling from the posts on here that it's been swapped. It's becoming a more common thing now so without FAIL ring T-Mobile.0 -
Hmm this thread got me thinking as ive just sold a phone on ebay.Posted it recorded delivery on monday no feedback left yet not unusual but thought i would check on what the buyer is bidding on lately.A few days before he bought my phone he bought an accessory kit for it charger, manual, usb,cd etc. Then he buys my phone. The next 2 items he has bid on are faulty phones the same as mine !
I could be worrying over nothing as the buyer has done nothing wrong yet but it just gets you thinking.Luckily i have a copy of the IMEI number of the phone.Shall just have to keep an eye on his purchases to see what he bids on.0 -
On the listing for the damaged phone he bought there is a photo of the damaged screen lit up. Check if this damage matches the returned phone. Item link here.0

ill give t mobile a call. are they open on sundays? regarding the pic, the crack on my screen is bottom left corner..
Just called. AND IT IS THE SAME HANDSET!! AHH. so he has bust my phone at his end. Does that mean its time to hand over the money!? Or report him to eBay.. or wait to see if his account gets closed.0 -
I've had a guy claim I sold them a damaged phone before.
I put so much bubble wrap with the phone there was no way it could have been damaged unless the postie jumped on it repeatedly.
I told the buyer it was not damaged when I sent it to him and that I had records of IMEI and product numbers, if he wished to return it I could put a claim in via royal mail but he would only receive payment when I receive compensation.
Never heard from him again but he did give me a positive, I never gave him one.0
