Auction winner says phone is cracked!

Email the sellers for the other phones he has bought and see if he has done similar to them0

morning all,
I have now had the phone checked out, and the handset IMEI matches the number on the back, and the number from T-mobile.
Conclusion: He broke it trying to get into the back of the phone.
Therefore i will be sending the following text to him this morning.
Regarding the Samsung D900 you won through my auction, im having difficulty in seeing how this phone has become damaged. I sent it in working order, which has been witnessed, into the original Samsung box, into additional packaging. This was then sent through UPS, a reliable courier i have used 100 times before without error. The packaging you returned shows no damage and UPS will not deliver damaged parcels (and therefore cannot be claimed for). I therefore can only think the phone was damaged upon receipt. Also, the way the screen has cracked looks like it occurred when the phone was slid open, and therefore more susceptible to damage. (perhaps in an effort to remove the back, to access the SIM card holder).
I have NOT returned the phone. I can expect for him to dispute through Paypal, get his £50 back and leave me negative feedback. Great!
Hopefully i can sell the phone again, advertised as with broken screen, and get £20 for it.
Ill update the thread as the story unfolds0 -
just out of interest is it the actual screen that is damaged (i.e right down to the electronic part that is displaying colours or just a cracked lens, if it's the latter a replacement could be had for a few pounds.Bought, not Brought0

Not sure if this has been posted, but did you send to a confirmed address?0

It's not significant for a broken item, the dispute isn't about not receiving it so being able to prove delivery wont help at all.Bought, not Brought0 -

what an awful experience. I can only assume that he has swopped only the screen with a broken handset.
Another option would be to look into the cost of having the handset repaired and standing the cost of the repair if its less than £50. Get him reported to Ebay and enquire with other ebay sellers.
good luck!0 -
just interested to know what was the buyers response to your email about not returning his cash ?0

Hmmm
As a phone engineer i can confirm it would take him about 20 minutes to swap the screen ( or the whole of the screen half of the phone ) .
My guess is that this is what happened, it doesn't seem likely that he broke it accidently....
Sadly there is no proof that this has happened unless you can see evidence of the phone being dismantled.
It is interesting to see that this particular model ( the d900i is the same ) is of particular interest to the buyer, maybe because he has dismantling expertise of it.
Dont know how you should proceed though...I wish you good luck !!0 -
If the buyer swapped a defective screen for your good one - I'd contact the other eBay seller he got the damaged D900 from and ask for details of the damage and photos if possible. You could then use it to either lodge a fraud complaint or Small Claims Court case."Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0
