  • I think you get messages pop up as you near the end of your credit. then it cuts out.
  • thanks for the quick reply
  • Sorry, bit of a tech question! I am thinking of dumping my BT broadband for mobile broadband as it is likely I will be replacing my tower PC set-up with a laptop in the near future as all I really use it for is this game, occasionally eBay and er, that's it!

I just checked and THREE are offering mobile broadband (3G equivalent) at less than half what I pay now and for my area it is allegedly full coverage on the fastest speed.

Question: Anyone use this? Any good? Issues? Any advice appreciated!

would wifi broadband not be cheaper, mobile broadband is capped at a certain amount of useage per month, and mobile broadband uses it pretty fast, especially if you were planning on doing online gaming.

What are you paying BT broadband at the moment? There are deals on O2 broadband, Sky Broadband (Both £10/month roughly), all wireless. The only advantage of mobile broadband is that you'd be able to access the web when you're out and about, but believe me it'll eat your useage allowance up
    £4988 Lloyds TSB Mastercard
    £400 O/D Lloyds TSB
    £2650 Lloyds TSB Loan
    £5070 Black Horse Finance

Skint, but I have a plan.... an MSE Plan!!!
  • No online gaming, when I said game I meant this place! I don't want to change provider, as we have gone that route before twice and it has been a bloody disaster both times. If we stay hard-wired we will stay with BT. I was just curious as to the 3G concept and how it works in real life. I am really not online a lot, well I am, but I needn't be if you see what I mean!
  • I dont have a landline and i would only require one for internet so i chose to go with the 3 mobile dongle
I got the £7.50 per month (5 gig) offer when it was on a few months ago and I am really happy with it. I had a couple of teething probs at first and they were promptly sorted out by their tech dept in India (mainly caused by my lack of knowledge)
But no connection problems and pretty fast, we are on net approx 12 hours a day, thats me on here, and 2 teenage boys doing teenage boy things (I dare not ask lol) and gcse work as well. this tends to use up approx 3-4 gigs but no more, I have never gone over the allowance but I do check towards the end of the month because if you run over your allowance it is REALLY expensive
Just checked and we have used 3.5 gig this month. this is on 18 month contract
  • Hi, I am sure there are probably many other offers on mobile broadband at the moment, but here is, what I thought to be quite good value for an average user:

3 offer what is called a starter kit, and if you get the 12GB (1GB per month for a year) starter kit it costs £97.86. But if you are already a 3 mobile phone customer (or, presumably, know someone who is, and is prepared to buy it for you) you get a 25% discount in store and online. Bringing the total cost for the year, including the dongle that plugs in the side of your computer, £73.39, about £6.11 a month.

The dongle itself (£48.93 if bought separately) seems pretty good as it gives up to 3.6mbps, doubles up as (up to) a 4GB memory stick if your phone uses a micro SD card, and the bit I like the best is the fact that the lid is attatched by a little strap - genius!

If anyone knows of any better offers, that don't tie you in or suddenly jump up in price halfway through, please let me know, as I am seriously considering this one!

    Cheers all - Dave
    :)

Not sure the 25% offer is valid on pay as you go Mobile broadband starter packs. Correct me if im wrong.

They told in a reseller shop me that the 12GB is 'use it anytime through the year' rather than 1GB per month. (i.e. you could use all 12GB in the 51st week if you wanted to - you don't lose any unused credit at the end of each month).

    Can anyone confirm/refute ?

You can use the 12GB anytime. So if you used 5GB in the first month you would not get charged any extra, you would just have 7GB left for the remaining 11 months.
