I'm having issues!
They are going to try and charge me for exceeding my data limit (3gb), however the program that comes with the modem still says i'm barely over 2gb, they claim I've used about £50 extras worth (so around 3.6gb). I think there's a ridiculous difference between the (at the time) 1.9gb on the program and the 3.6gb that they claim. Am I right to kick up a royal fuss about this?
But getting it sorted is a nightmare, tried calling the bangalore help desk who were admitedly very understanding of the problem, only problem is they tried to solve it by calling me and leaving a voicemail on my 3 USB modem (can't phone them back).
So have emailed them using the feedback tool on their website, and have also made a screenshot of the program showing its usage combined with the BBC news website showing the date.
Do you think I'll be successful in getting them to scrap this charge, or will they just try and beat me through the "oh he'll get bored eventually". I think next step might be to write to them?
Anyone had similar situation, and any advice for getting the best out of 3?
This is why I went onto the pay as you go one instead of contract. If I use my bandwidth is simply stops working so no possibility of surprise bills!0 -
hi everyone,
just thought i would post a few tips with regards to the 3 modem, might have been posted before but i havent read the whole thread.
ok, first before buying or connecting a contract for one, go to threes site and click network coverage. then click turbo now on the right hand side. if you don't have turbo coverage then don't bother with it as it will be painfully slow.
second, turn off automatic updates on you're comp as this totally eats into your usage allowance.
also, if you're thinking about or have it on contract, call customer services and have them set your credit limit to zero. this way you're capped when you've used your allowance, so no nasty bills.
last couple of bits.
you have 3 days trial to return it, but if buying payg don't top it up till you know it works as if you need to return it, you won't get your top up money back. If using a laptop, take it into a 3 store and ask them to check the connection settings, as some of the modems are still running on the old settings and are quite a bit slower.
hope this is of some use, oh and lastly, there are some programs which can stop the modem working. if having problems test it on someones computer other than yours or take it into store again. It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

Hi all,
I've recently bought a 3 PAYG Mobile Broadband dongle along with 3GB (£15) of data, which I intended to use when on holiday in Exeter, Devon. Despite claims that there was full coverage in that area, I rarely got any signal at all, and on the odd occasion I did, the service was rubbish. Consequently, I've only used about 20MB of my 3GB.
The trouble is, any data allowance you have expires 30 days after purchase. This means I either have to use the 3GB at home (no point as I have Virgin Cable) or lose my data at the end of the 30 days.
I think this is unfair; if I have paid for data, I should be able to use this whenever I want - just like PAYG mobile phones.
Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to keep my data? Surely there must be some legal/Ofcom regulation against this type of practice?
Thanks

You could lodge a complaint about it but the problem is that its clearly stated in the terms before you buy. I have the same service with 3 but use it as my main internet. It can be a bit dodgy on the signal but generally comes down to the USB power more than the signal.0 -
Yeah, I'll give it a try. Thanks!0

As my company's sending me away more, I've decided I'm going to need mobile broadband. I'm not going to be using it often enough to get a contract, and 3 seem to offer the best PAYG package for me.
Modem is £49.99. Will be starting with the £25 7GB/30 days package as I'm away for a month in July. Anyone know of any offers if I get this through another provider (like Carphone Warehouse?)
Don't currently have Quidco. Is it worth getting for this?0 -
Yes, join Quidco.
I have just signed up for the Three deal, I have a £60.00 cashback currently being tracked. I did sign up for a contract (£10/month) but Quidco does claim the £60 cashback is for any "broadband on the move" sale - this may include PAYG broadband modem sales, I'm not sure.0 -
Is that through Carphone Warehouse that you got the £60?0
