Do you mean wap access or real internet access? . its just i have one of the 3g USB modems and its unlocked so would be interested in using on o2 payg on an evening if its possible .
    All help welcome
  • Thanks for all your replies I have emailed the Ebay seller but it appears he does not have anymore at the moment.

It is looking as if there is a very limited supply of these 3 pay as you go mobile brodband modems. Shame really as I am sure there will be somewhere selling them cheaper.

Is there any reason there is never many on Ebay for sale second hand? I take it there is no problem selling it second hand, just as a pay as you go phone?

Apart from 3 though, are any other phone co's offering an attractive Internet access tariff, eg on pay as you go? As I understand it, they don't allow modem use with a laptop normally.

Just discovered T-Mobile is offering a new Web'n'Walk service for Laptops. £100 3g dongle style modem, £4 per any one day's use.

  • Further to my earlier post, as the only way, apart from court action, I could see of getting value for my 2 year contract, seeing as 3's modem would not work with my Acer Ferrari laptop, I, maybe foolishly, bought yet another computer specifically for the purpose.

The good news is that it does work (at a pathetic 120kb/s in what is shown by their postcode checker and coverage map as a currently Turbo enabled area), after 4 days I encountered the same problem as Michilin27 (see post of 13/12/07). Three messages all stating that I had exceeded my monthly 3Gb allowance and would now be charged extra for all use until the end of January.

I know this is nonsense and considered contacting Customer Services, with whom I have had considerable dealings, all of which were unsatisfactory. Then I browsed this forum again and saw Michilins comments.

Michelin27 was given what appeared to be a plausible explanation but this is total nonsense. At the same time as the message was onscreen saying I'd used up my 3Gb (in just one week since I bought the computer?) their Modem Usage onscreen was showing 52Mb used in a total time of 1h 20mins. So the onscreen message could not have been generated by the modem software. I have actually used one sixtieth of my monthy allowance!

So do I blunder on and use the modem and hope the billing system uses the right information or do I stop using broadband for a couple of weeks?

Incidentally, My3 shows that I have over 3Gb of unused data use but it is unable to show me my usage for the month, which is blank!

Another point, 3's modem softwre is NOT Microsoft certified. I wonder why? Either they can't afford the certification fee or they know (or have been told) that the software will not or does not comply. Microsoft certification is there for the good of the computer owner and any reputable company who cannot or will not comply should not be marketing their software to anyone. It is at least shoddy practice, at worst potentially harmful to the computer. Once again, be warned.

my brother bought this on friday, it went back yesterday and he got out of teh contract.

Same problems as above, couldnt install at first the so called techies failed i managed to talk him through a fix finally.

When he did get on line not a dicky bird no signal at all, even though he should of got a great one according to 3.

Carphone warhouse didnt want to know at first, but he read them the thing in the box that says you must return within 3 days which he did so they cancelled the contract.

I never rely on the modem software figures; I always check my usage on My3 and go by them figures because these are the figures that 3 are going to use to bill you.
  • 3 are starting to annoy me now!

I returned the modem and cancelled my contract within 2 days as I could not get the modem to work. They have now sent me a bill saying I am overdue payment on last month's Broadband internet access!

I have e-mailed them to try and sort it out. I really hope that they have not told a credit agency that I owe them money and have defaulted on a contract (that should have been cancelled!). (I have applied for a new credit card and I do not want this to mess it up!)

I have my fingers crossed this will be sorted out by e-mail as I do not want to waste too much time or money on this!
