  • I work remotely and have to use these damn things every day.

I have a Vodafone USB modem, which will conect at 3.6 meg in Manchester city centre, it jumps onto GPRS sometimes (236k) if im in the middle of an office.

If you live in the sticks then you might find yourself living on GPRS.

Basically, click your home page, go and put the kettle on, make the brew and maybe its ready when you get back.

But this is Vodafone, other providers may be better

Sorry if i sound cynical but it does my head in!!!

3 offer by far the most competitive data bundles as far as I can see. Check the coverage before you look at buying one - theres no point signing up to a "faster" service if its not in your area.
  • Hi

I have read mixed reviews on the 3 Mobile Broadband service and I am going to give it a try. So I do not get locked into a contract I am going to go with the pay as you go option.

I have searched around briefly and found that on the 3 website the pay as you go modem is £99.

Does anyone know of where this can be purchased cheaper?

    Thanks
  • Do all the networks offer a pay as you go option for mobile broadband .

I didnt know these modems could be unlocked? I'd be interested to learn what this would mean and how /what charges would be made if it were used with other networks?
  • Hi,

    Hope you can help me.

I received my 3 mobile usb broadband 'dongle' yesterday and I installed it ok but when I get to press the connect button on the 3 mobile screen it tries to connect and it then says

'a connection to the remote computer could not be established so the port used for this connection was closed'

I tried called technical support and got through to india (:o ) and they went through a load of settings which made no difference at all and then they said that it could be because the sim card wasn't activiated yet and to give it 24 hours. I called to activate the sim and they said it was already activiated. Bearing in mind I've only got until tomorrow to send it back under the 3 day trial period - has anyone got any ideas how I can get it working????

    Thanks
    M
