I think more people have probably been buying their festive groceries gradually from an earlier start date than normal this year. That's what we've done & with the economic situation being as it is atm, it's a good way of allowing extra planning time & spreading the cost. Mr F once managed to find an enormous yellow-stickered pork roasting joint between Christmas & New Year, so I've issued him with a challenge this year to see if he can find another bargainaceous item which will make us several meals. I think he enjoys the caveman hunter element of it, tbh.

Morning all, happy festive Thursday, the final countdown has begun 🎄
WFH today thank goodness. I've already marked my work calendar with leave for next Christmas so I only work 3 days the week before. If I don't do it now I'll forget as the year goes on.
I'm going to nip up to Aldi this morning to hopefully finish the food shopping off. I noticed they are opening at 7am today but I often find getting to supermarkets as they open means a lot of produce hasn't been put out yet or you're struggling to get past them filling the shelves.
@foxgloves Mr SA loves those big meat joints that can be cut into different things and stored in the freezer. He was planning how many steaks/joints/stewing beef portions I could cut it into. Think I need to sharpen my knife first 😆
Not having to rush to get ready for work means I was able to read a chapter of my book, do a Spanish lesson and 2 surveys this morning during breakfast.
I'm hoping for a quiet working day, a lot of people broke up yesterday with even more breaking up today. Obviously people much more sensible than me 😆 Having said that some are back next week and I'm off.

I used to love working between Christmas & new year because the phone hardly ever rang. When it did it tended to be the same customer who wanted something delivered. He was a real joy all year - not. It was one of the pleasures of my day to say yes of course I would process his order for delivery in January, but if he wanted to collect it that was fine too. No carriers would collect & no warehousemen to fulfill the order, I could pick orders with no problem but packing was not my forte, things have changed a lot since then. The only other call would be from my boss from HO (the co accountant) I'm sure he was ringing just to make sure I had turned up.

The Aldi shop has been done. I've got more or less everything now. Still no mini pizzas so I bought 2 large sharing ones. Note to self for next year buy the mini pizzas when they first come in stock as they're obviously very popular. I'm making future notes for next year as issues arise as I will forget.
For some reason the dog and cats are playing up and being snarky with each other. The cats were sniffing round my shopping bags and the dog cleared them off. Then the dog starting digging up dining room rug and left it in a heap!
In a previous role at my workplace, we couldn't have time off between Christmas and New Year because 31 December is year-end for a lot of companies and we used to be extremely busy. This is all done online now so wouldn't be an issue if I still worked there.
It seems fairly quiet so far today, ssh don't tempt fate. I have a couple of short meetings before lunch then another one after lunch. Tomorrow should be even quieter and I'm only working until lunchtime.
I'm looking forward to my lunchtime live exercise class as it's going to be 30 minutes of stretching and relaxation, just what I need.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4 -
I've had a lovely surprise delivered this afternoon, a bottle of red wine from my manager. It has an enormous dimple in the bottom so should be a good one. She's only been my manager for a couple of months and I've only seen her once as she isn't based in my location so I totally wasn't expecting this.
Mr SA took the dog out after lunch so I took advantage of the living room being Mr SA and dog free to give it a good clean. When I moved his chair out to clean underneath I noticed it had scraped some of the new paintwork off the wall ☹ I pointed it out to him when he returned and have asked him to be more careful. He has annoyingly denied doing it. It was only painted in the summer!I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5 -

DS has just phoned to say DIL has been rushed to hospital with swelling on the brain. She’s had a scan and thankfully it’s not a tumour 🙏 It was spotted at a routine eye test so always worth going for these not just for glasses. She’d been having headaches for a while and feeling sick. She’s been told it’s not life threatening but life changing and will need constant monitoring. Why is there always something 😩I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5
