The lumbar puncture was unsuccessful so DIL is being operated on tonight to release the fluid on her brain. She’s upset because she wants to be home with the GKs for Christmas but it’s not looking promising at the moment. DS has tried to reassure her that they can do Christmas when she’s better.

Good wishes and prayers for an uneventful recovery. I wonder if she will be able to facetime or equivalent, but perhaps not right now. Best she gets the pressure released of course, but so hard for all of you.

The GKs think she’s in hospital for a eye test and there’s a big queue. DS doesn’t want to worry them. Apparently she’s been not only suffering from constant headaches but her sight has been deteriorating rapidly over the last few months. Once the pressure is released she’ll start to feel a lot better.

Oh that brings back memories of a friend not being able to join in things because of her 'cough'. That's how it was explained because she didn't want them to worry. In fact it was, at the time of her diagnosis, a very serious condition. I bumped into her the other day and her kids are grown up with their own families and she's still going strong.

I continue to be amazed at how much can be done not only to alleviate danger but also to get people back to leading their lives. Those small, ordinary things that are so valuable...
