Shattered today, so a lazy dinner, all day breakfast, eggs, bacon, sausages with grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, there’s toast for himself if needed.

Uses up some of the bacon mountain from the freezer too 👍

OH cooked tonight  <3 plant based kievs, beans and some mozarella sticks that needed using. Very nice.

I also ordered some of our xmas dinner today  :o last year they ran out of certain items (which actually led us to getting chicken which was as nice as the turkey so gone for that again). Not collecting til Dec and they used to run a 15% off promo in Nov but I decided I wasn't going to risk waiting this year. Still got some bits from other places to pick up but one thing done at least.

  • Due to time pressure I had to pop most of my lunchtime salad in the fridge for later so on the way home from this afternoon's outing to a local museum I bought a baguette, some f/f cottage cheese and a y/s ready made apple and walnut salad and ate those with my leftover lunch followed by a couple of coffees.

@kerri_gt - great planning ahead there, I'm still trying to decide between several raised pie recipes using hot water crust or filo and then there's the fondue in baked pumpkin option on my list of possible makes too.

How can people plan so far in advance???!?!  OH will still be dithering about what we'll have for Christmas dinner right up until the 23rd at least!  At least we have the sprouts & red cabbage already - bought frozen last November I think.

I have kept a list over the years of what I've bought for Christmas dinner and remember what we do / didn't like so much (such as red cabbage that we always had loads left of):disappointed:
At the end of the day, it's a posh roast so fairly standard list which changes depending on what the store is doing that year (for example it used to be clementine carrots and now it's marmalade). OH is veggie and has already put in a request for his main (per last year) and DM whilst will eat some meat, won't touch game, fish that looks like fish etc so it somewhat reduces the options.
Plus there's only 3 of us for dinner so there's not too many people to feed.

Having the prev years tracked helps and sometimes I just buy a bit of a variation or a few extras if I see them but I know we'll have carrots, piggies in blankets, gravy and mash so they were easy to order.
I also know I am not standing in the kitchen like a lemon all xmas morning prepping from scratch so I buy pre-made where possible except my roasties.

I think we too have a bag of sprouts in the freezer too  :D

Ah the dietary challenges!!  At least our household is easy - MiL will have turkey breast and standard dinner items and then OH & I will have whatever takes our fancy.  But yes Pigs and roasties are normal.  Probably trifle.

But my family - when I've been able to be with them - is a nightmare.  There's the vegetarians, the allergies to fish, shellfish, gluten, lactose, those no/low carbing, no alcoholites, no nuts, must be wild, can't be wild, must be organic, must be about 30 other things.  Lettuce and tomatoes are universal fortunately.

Growing up (before we could make choices) it was turkey with bread stuffing, HM coleslaw, mashed potatoes, mashed turnip followed by HM shortbread and other little cakes (fav was/is iced grape nut bars).  Later my mom gave up on tradition and we've had game dinners (including bear steak) or lobster (bought live resulting in bros having lobster races in the kitchen) but now there's been a return to something more like a trad meal sometimes with the option of turkey and/or salmon.

Not that I'll be partaking this year as the travel is just not going to happen!!!

Coconut milk based chicken curry here tonight.

We have our main Christmas meal on Christmas Eve.  Christmas Day is ours, and whatever we fancy to eat, nothing set, but try and eat local.  Our local deer farm is looking good though😉 last year we had a massive cheeseboard with local charcuterie and local cheeses, flipping lush…..

Are your family related to @thriftwizard's fusspotarians that she mentioned catering for a while ago?  ;)

I've had a very busy and tiring day here crammed with unexpected demands so ended up making salad wraps for dinner using up the heel of some parmesan and some urfa chilli paste among other bits and bobs. I'm just trying to decide between an apple, a tangerine or a banana for pud with my coffee and then I'm off to bed early.
