I've randomly found a jar of ''boxing day curry sauce'' sold reduced last Christmas by sains. And as coincidence would have it I have some diced turkey meat. It's not Christmas but at least it will use up the jar. Will have it with rice.

@kerri_gt - mixed grain salad?  how'd you do that??

@goldfinches - re the butternut squash soup - well I love squash and love it in a soup but hate hate hate peeling the darn things.  do you think if I deseeded and baked I could just scoop the flesh out and end up with about the same??

I heartily agree about the peeling, I had to resharpen my knife today entirely because of hacking the skin off the squash.
I think your suggestion would work and might taste even nicer because the flesh had been roasted especially if you brushed it with an oil or a paste too. I had been thinking that it would be worth considering roasting the squash pieces to bump up the flavour before bunging it in the soup anyway so do let me know how you get on with this short cut please?

Tonight I had another portion of the squash soup with a toasted slice of seedy bread with the last scrape of ricotta on it followed by a bowl of salad and some sliced radishes and then a chunk of cheddar and a coffee.

I don't peel squash. If you roast them then the skin should be soft enough to eat. Especially if you're making it into soup.

Yes if I'm simply roasting to go with something like a pork roast I often will eat the skin.  Not possible with all winter squashes of course.  I normally put a bit of butter on/in the squash before roasting and occasionally dust with nutmeg.

Mister CJ and I have spent a couple of hours this afternoon removing the horrible, ugly fireplace from our living room (thereby saving approx £650 in labour costs, very MSE!) in readiness for a lovely new woodburner which is being installed next week. We are both tired and covered in dust, so tonight's dinner will be something simple. I can't even be bothered to order a takeaway, so it'll probably be a mushroom omelette and a glass of nicely chilled white wine  :)
