We took lunch to DD1 and James as they had an awful night with the baby so we made sandwiches, I cooked chipolatas, we got some bakery cakes, some crisps and a bunch of bananas and we took it over to them and then took baby for a walk for most of the afternoon and she slept for nearly all of it. They had the first break from her since she was born almost 5 weeks ago and actually had a rest together which was lovely.

Dinner this evening is going to be a cheating ready made pasta in tomato sauce because we're tired too!

I bet they could see a halo above your head when you rocked up with that and took the little one so they could have a sleep.

OH finished the veggie chilli tonight and I had haddock poached in a parsley sauce with rice. Am out for dinner tomorrow but there's enough rice and LO sauce for me to have the same on Friday.

Pay day on Friday, feel like I should go and do a big shop but we've still got quite a lot in when you actually look / plan. Zero idea what I have for lunch tomorrow though as I had the final roll from the feeezer today (complete with a little freezer burn). Might be a cuppa soup and some pitta crisps. Or I could do scrambled eggs and beans with sausages

  • I doubt they could keep their eyes open to see anything much poor loves, baby isn't sleeping well at all and they are both blitzed besides HWK has been in hospital and I've had to keep my distance until we knew what he had and that it wasn't contagious so I've been itching to go and play Oma and it's a relief to be able to give them a little break from it all. She's a lovely little girl but is quite hard work at the moment and DD1 isn't used to the nights being quite so fragmented. It WILL get better with time and she will settle as she gets older but she's not quite 5 weeks yet so we've a while to go yet xxx.

Mrs LW I have zero baby experience myself personally and I'm quite sure we'd all be somewhat grumbly after 9 snug and cosy months only to be unceremoniously introduced to this stange outside world, but have the new parents got a Ewan the Dream Sheep? He certainly is no miracle worker but it's something I've bought for two sets of parents and been used on three babies whom he's all helped calm. One little boy still loves his Ewan aged 5.
As I said, not a miracle worker and the new family will get into their own routine but it's just a suggestion that might help, even a teeny bit :o

Lovely days mrs lurchwalker. I always say my happiest time ever was the first few weeks with the first baby, but he did sleep. I will always be grateful to my mother in law, who came round and just helped by bringing fresh bread or a cake from the local bakery.

Husband home tonight, he had some pork chops, apple, black pudding, onion and potato, layered up and baked in a tinfoil sheet. Served with cabbage.
Daughter had chicken, mushrooms and peppers, baked in oven with wedges.
I had an omelette, with cottage cheese and spinach ( ruined the healthy image with a twix for afters)
