No picture but having been alerted to the bargain 600g of chicken legs for £1.50 at M&S we bought 2 packs and the OH made coq au vin. There are leftovers so we'll have a repeat on Saturday. We're out to a posh pizza place tomorrow night with friends.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I did the kebab thing I saw on social media and it went down really well.
For those that are interested.
It is just a chopped onion, blended to a pulp with a tablespoon of yoghurt, plus1teaspoon paprika1 teaspoon pepper1 teaspoon chilli flakes1 teaspoon cumin1 teaspoon oregano1 teaspoon salt.
Mix into 500g 12% fat mince (lamb or beef)
Best using hands.
Then you get sheets of greaseproof paper and spread the mix onto about 6sheets really thinly and roll them up. I used another greaseproof sheet on top and a rolling pin. Then used that greaseproof sheet for the next one. Put the rolls on a baking sheet.
Bake for 20 mins, drain off the liquid. Bake for another 5 mins.
Unroll them and you are left with very thin slices of kebab style meat. You can put them back in the oven to crisp up for 5 mins if you wish.
Then serve, over chips, in pitta bread with salads, in rolls, up to you.
Much healthier than the kebab shop.6 -

Out for posh pizza tonight with friends. Showed OH the menu and he's sniffed disparagingly at their Negroni which includes a slice of grapefruit. Hoping he will be ok as he's got a swollen toe (possibly gout, possibly due to too much seafood on NYE)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Last night did Mac and cheese
Tonight making these Turkish wrap type things, seem to be like savoury fajitas, no spices just peppers and herbs, baked with cheese on top.Jan 26 GC 🥞🧇 £434.75/£500

68 years old and for the first time in my life I have made cottage pie. Granted for the first 40 years I don't think I knew that cottage pie existed. Anyways - no pics as it's in the oven getting ready to be served. I'm thinking it will be lush.
OH came in to the kitchen mid prep which is always guaranteed to result in him questioning what I'm doing. I admit he's a very good cook and on that basis I never try to comment on what he's preparing.
Anyhoo - he looks at the meat mix cooking and asks "what are those black bits?"
"Mushrooms" I reply.
"Gah!! You can never follow a recipe!!"
"You don't know what recipe I'm following"
"OK which recipe is it?!"
"BBC Food Cottage Pie with mushrooms."
"Oh. OK." Then he adds "do you want me to add some parsley to the potatoes?"
"NO!"
And reader, just to be clear, there is no BBC Food Cottage Pie with mushrooms, at least not that I can find. And the recipe from BBC Food that I was vaguely following didn't call for carrots either. And the potatoes suggested butter but as always I used olive oil.
