Carvery last night was lovely - we were a bit late compared to the usual Sunday crowd arriving at 7 so not surprisingly the remaining roast beef was very well done.  Fortunately they had a lot of roast pork left and the chef serving was quite happy to give me slices from the portion I liked best.  And he was massively generous too - a bit of a first at a carvery in my experience!!

Undecided about tonight - might go to the Greek Cypriot place that we like or go down market to Harvester which frankly won't cost that much less.  We could manage sandwiches and cuppa soup given that we have a kettle.

Sadly the ETA for the finished kitchen has slid along to Thursday at the earliest.....

I've been reading along but have not posted for ages; we've got into a bit of a rut with dinners mostly because I've been picking up a lot of lovely free fruit and veg from the community larder each week, meaning we have inadvertently become almost vegetarian and my repertoire of that consists mostly of soups, curries, pasta dishes and cauliflower cheese. All a bit repetitive - I need to sit down and go through my recipe books/files/these threads/the internet for some better inspiration!

I too recall (with a shudder) what it was like to be without a kitchen for 8 weeks when we were having it extended and refitted a few years back. We set up a temp kitchen with a couple of the old base units, a slab of worktop and the microwave in the dining room, and I had to wash up in the bathroom. We laugh about it now, but at the time .......

Congratulations to all those who have been celebrating birthdays, and hugs to all who need them. :)

Anyone have any ideas on how to boil eggs when you have are a coffee machine and a kettle??  I was wondering if leaving an egg in a mug, on the radiator (to help it retain heat) and change the hot water every 10 minutes or so would work.

You can boil eggs in your kettle, though I guess you would need to rinse it out well afterwards.
    1. Add however many eggs you want or that you can fit into your kettle.
    2. Put enough water into your kettle so that it sits around 1'' over your eggs.
    3. Keep your lid open and turn your kettle on.
    4. Close your lid once it comes to a boil and turn your kettle off.
    5. Let your eggs sit in the kettle for 10-12 minutes.

Husband had his Sunday roast. Daughter and I both have heavy colds so we had tuna and pasta.

At lunch I bought a special offer carton of leek potato and cheese soup for £1. It was a well known brand but it just tasted over seasoned. Is it my tastebuds? I will make my own next time.
