So last night's excursion was to an Italian place we've been driving past for the last 3 decades but had never managed to go to. So went in and it was very strangely quiet - as in there was 1 small family in there when we arrived. Another couple came in for a drink a while later and then left.
Anyways the lady in charge came up with menus, showed us a table, gave us menus and then explained that unfortunately they had no pizzas available and there were a few other things that were off the menu as well. Wasn't a problem as there were a number of other lovely things to choose from. OH had the starter of whitebait and calamari that he said was the freshest he'd ever tasted. I had a aubergine parmigarnia which was excellent. He then had the seafood pasta and I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli with chicken breast. All really really excellent.
We were at this point alone in the restaurant (8 pm on a Friday??) and got talking to the couple that run the place. Apparently they took over a year ago and just have not been able to build a business so are closing it this weekend. They may open up another place in a better location which we said we would look out for. The passion the chap has for cooking was obvious and they were obviously a bit upset that they couldn't offer us a better dining experience.
Very sad for them but if things go as they suggested they will be opening again near where I work so I'll be able to watch for them.
Tonight we're ordering in a Chinese meal - just need to check if one of us has to pop out to get some cash as not all of them in our neighbourhood take plastic.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Husband went down to the marsh this morning. Didn't find 25 ponies trotting along with brandy for the parson and baccy for the clerk, nor Dr Syn. He did find a local butcher who makes his own sausages, cures his own bacon and buys lamb raised on the marsh. We had a big mixed grill for lunch so supper will probably be soup or boiled eggs.2

We were going to have curry but husband has a bad back and taking pain killers that make him feel a bit queasy so we just had a BLT each (mine with vege bacon) and a cup of tea.

We have 2 reservations for Sunday lunch - both have a carvery. One (Toby) is cheaper for starters and desserts but both are about the same for the actual main course. Need to ask OH which one he wants so I can cancel the other.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I made Sunday Roast with a pork loin joint and also cooked a chicken.
The monkfish I got out of the freezer yesterday has been made into a thai curry. I also used a ready meal broccoli with cheese sauce to make a macaroni cheese, adding leeks and vege bacon.
So that's us and inlaws for today, Monday and Tuesday. Although in what order they will be eaten is anyone's guess 😂2 -
Classic Sunday roast for us today as well. I am struggling a bit with meal planning just now. I feel like my tastes and appetite have changed since menopause and all the old favourites I used to make during the winter are no longer that appealing. Going to take a look through the thread for ideas today.1
