In Shaftsbury for a conference and was blown away by the discovery of a fish restaurant (Le mer rouge) run by a Lebanese chap.  Served a beet, cucumber, onion salad with flat breads and hummus and babaganoush as an "amuse".  I had mackerel with pomegranate seed couscous with chili jam for a starter and OH had moules - both were outstanding.  I was expecting a bit of flaked mackerel on a tiddly plate so was surprised to get a whole fresh grilled filet of fish.  I had a chicken shish on a mixed baby leaf salad which included pickeled courgette and red onions - and was made of about 4 chicken breasts.  OH had baked bream with calamari and prawns and the fish was hanging over both ends of a very large plate!  And delicious.  Roasted honeyed figs with mascarpone for afters....

last night was a conference dinner that was beef in red wine which was fine.  OH wasn't participating and had a dreadful fish and chips at the Premier Inn where we're staying.  to make up for that we're going back to the fish place tonight.

I made a huge fridge rubble salad to be followed by cheese and crackers with a decaf coffee if I can heave myself out of this chair.

  • Heya.

I had a mini bubble and squeak for lunch followed by a mini cheese cake. Tomorrow it will be two eggs on toast with fondue and leftover soup for dinner with white wine and ice cream.

back to the Lebanese fish restaurant again last night.  Lamb meatballs in a cream tomato sauce for me to start and lamb sausages for OH.  Mains were grilled filet of halibut for OH and mine was monkfish with roasted new potatoes and a pesto cream sauce.  I like monkfish but I think it was the idea of pesto cream that caught my attention.  It was all very lovely but OH's busy day caught up with him and we left before having any afters - which was just as well!!!

Tempeh and roast veggie stew type 'thing' for me (I never use recipes, just chuck random things into pots!).
Also made WM bread, butter bean spread, spiced apple cake and overnight oats so I can avoid cooking anything for the rest of the week pretty much!

Cookathon today, pork roast dinner for husband and inlaws. I made a soda bread, lentil and veg soup, apple crumble, spinach and mushroom pasta. Mushroom quiche, sausage rolls and a few stuffed jacket potatoes.

It really was to use up bits in the fridge, apples from the fruit bowl and eggs that have been in the fridge a bit too long.

It will feed us for lunches over the next few days.

I rehydrated some of this golden tofu and then chopped it into smallish pieces and made a variation on this recipe with rice noodles, an egg and a portion of Nigella's softly spiced mung beans from the fridge.
