Many condolences to you @Islandmaid - I'm struggling a bit too after losing a good work colleague yesterday, it seems to have fallen to me to shoulder the task of informing people and helping the family through. It's taking its toll a bit.
Working from home today so taking advantage of the time between meetings to process the two Aldi bags full of veg which I collected free from the Community Fridge last night - an unbelievable amount, including asparagus, eggs, apples, potatoes, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions, mushrooms, spinach, tenderstem broccoli, mozzarella pearls, green peppers, aubergine, carrots, shredded cabbage, sugar snap peas, egg noodles, leeks, stocks/sauces/herbs.
I've just whipped up some pastry and have made a mushroom, garlic, spring onion, spinach and cheese slice which we will have with salad tomorrow, a pan of leek and potato soup for lunches (despite the heat!), some leeks wrapped in ham in a cheese sauce which I will freeze for a lunch next week, and prepped a whole load of veg to have as a Chinese chicken and prawn + veg noodle stir fry tonight. I feel very fortunate that we have such amazing volunteers locally who save this surplus stuff from going to waste.6 -

@Islandmaid
Condolences here too for you.
I keep waiting to hear news of some of my current work colleagues quite a few of whom are a decade or two beyond state pension age (so older than me). I have been shocked by the number of colleagues from my previous employer (where I was one of the oldest in the building) who died or came very close to it. It makes me sad to see young people, some under 30 developing debilitating diseases, suffering strokes and heart attacks, and very sadly also committing suicide. Makes any complaints about my own life seem absolutely insignificant. As the relatively elderly colleague many turned to me to cry on my shoulder - comfortable for them as I'm well padded but difficult for me as I have very little cry control and would end up a blubbering mess as well. And I managed to volunteer to ring ex colleagues about the chap who committed suicide. Dreadful as I only had work numbers so was definitely catching them at a convenient time. (not that any time is convenient really)
Anyways - try to make time for yourself and if things get unbearable explain it all to Frank as I'm sure he will know exactly how to comfort you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. So sorry to hear of the deaths of your friends and colleagues @Islandmaid, @C_J and @Brie, sending hugs and virtual cake from this direction.
I made what turned out to be a very large amount of hummus on Sunday and then at cookery class we made an enormous ratatouille so I've been eating those for lunch and dinner respectively and still have at least two portions of each to go. The weather here has suddenly turned cold so am considering making a cauliflower cheese or an aubergine curry next as both caulis and aubergines were priced very reasonably in M*rks this afternoon. That will probably send the thermometer sky high overnight so I won't count my chickens yet!6 -
Very ‘salt and pepper’ weather today, one minute blazing sun, the next cloudy with rain 🤷♀️ praying for dry as there are so many big events on this weekend.
The garden is loving this weather and looks fab, all the roses are on their second bloom, the Japanese anemones are all in flower along side the verbena and the bee’s are taking full advantage when it’s bright 🙌
dinner will be picky bits, chicken wings and pork belly bites, HM coleslaw with corn on cob and HM bread for him - I feel some wine coming in later and maybe even some dark chocolate for pud

We've a couple of mexican dinner kits available so OH is off to buy (amongst other things) chicken thighs for what will end up being fajitas. (which reminds me - have to text him to get some sour cream)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
