Been away up north for a long weekend......got to Scarborough a few hours later than expected and didn't get down to the south beach until nearly 8 pm but fortunately there was a fish and chip place still serving (many close at 6 apparently!!) so we had starters of scampi and whitebait and then fish and chips to follow. TOO much!! But marvellous.
Saturday we had a concert to go to (Paul Heaton was most excellent & who had left £1k behind the bar at 5 pubs not that we got to take advantage) so toodled around visiting local villages and ended up at a pub (Hare & Hound near Whitby) for a very late lunch. OH had the biggest single serving steak and mushroom pie I've ever seen about 5 inches across and 4 inches high with huge chunks of meat in it plus potatoes, carrots, broccoli and red cabbage. I had slow cooked pork belly on ham and onion mash and again I've never seen such a large portion - I couldn't finish it. Pricey for lunch £50ish including beer & cider but ok as we weren't going to have any dinner.
Sunday was toodling around again and back to the same fish restaurant for a late lunch - more fish and chips - well you've got to when it's that good. We'd picked up some sandwiches and wine to have while lazing at the hotel later (they don't serve dinner). And the hotel did a incredible job with breakfasts - full english was great but on Sunday we requested smoked haddock and poached eggs for OH & I had a turkish breakfast - eggs poached in a dish of tomatoes, chickpeas and onions well flavoured with harissa & sumac served with chunks of sourdough toast.
Monday was doing the long drive home - a good 7 hours which was better than the 9 hours it took to get there. Stopped at M of S and nabbed pizza for an easy dinner. Bit of a let down but that's ok.
Tonight it's Taxco ribs with the extras from M7S onion rings and breaded mushrooms. OH said it was to celebrate 4th of July but I'll ignore that and pretend it's still 1st July which makes it Canada Day!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Last night we had southern fried chicken with
hm chips, broccoli, peas and homegrown (!!) french beans.
Tonight I was planning hm pizza but eldest suggested a Chinese takeaway which we haven’t had in forever, so that’s now stuck in my brain! Tbf, DH is out so a meal for two would more than feed the three of us with leftovers, so it wouldn’t be that expensive……!
