  • I'm another who wasn't watching as I couldn't face a funeral. I went out for a walk and lots of other people around here seem to have had the same idea. It's been very quiet here since yesterday evening and still is noticeably subdued compared to an ordinary day, feels more like Easter or Christmas than a September day.

I had shallow fried tofu cubes with spinach in hoi sin sauce, broad beans, edamame beans, petits pois and rice followed by a passionfruit and coffee.

@goldfinches I was outside around lunchtime and it was eerie quiet. Like you say, like Christmas Day almost in the lack of background noise you'd usually expect.

  • When I went to cook dinner - realised that tonight was not Frikadellen burger but bratwurst in seeded roll with hm oven chips and tomatoes.
Did a tray bake which I topped with jam and coconut for tomorrow's lunch at SA. I baked a Victoria sandwich but going to fill that tomorrow with fresh cream.
I cooked some more of my free apples - over a pound weight in each bag for the freezer.

I've cooked rabbit with apricots and spinach in the past - very tasty.

Last night was noodles with homemade teriyaki sauce and veg (cabbage, carrots, broccoli, pepper...much cheaper than a pre made mix and fresher too!)

Tonight I'm cheating - vegan meatballs, jars of sauce, rigatoni and broccoli. I'm back from maternity leave this week and trying to give myself some grace as I find my feet. I managed to throw everything in the slow cooker for chilli tomorrow too, will plug it in in the morning.

I baked a Victoria Sandwich while the oven was in use last night. I whipped cream that I was given for the filling and used basics Aldi strawberry jam. I use Aldi flour/sugar/baking marge/eggs and all in one method. This was a 4 egg mix which cut into 12 slices. I worked out cost of cake at 90p. If I had bought the cream - would have been total cost of £2.10. Tesco cream sponge feeds 6 and is £2.95. We had a lot of people at SA lunch today so my cakes went quickly. I froze the lo whipped cream.
Lovely cake to make as a gift or for a special occasion.
