We had salad tonight, I had a small pizza with mine, others had spicy chicken. Leftover new potatoes from last night were actifryed.

I also played freezer tetris tonight, I had bought some filled pasta at a bargain price and couldn't squeeze it in. So beef casserole is out for husbands dinner tomorrow.

I still have 5 million apples to deal with.  Not helped (despite being appreciated) by a friend stopping by yesterday with a few more from her garden - eaters, not bakers so they will be interesting to try.

But the big plan today is to defrost the freezer in the kitchen.  This means transferring as much as possible into the garage fridge freezer and I hope most will fit.  What doesn't will either be thawed for immediate use, binned or packed in a cool box on the hopes that it doesn't thaw too much before going back in to deep freeze.  This is the method I've always used and it tends to be my less favourite frozen veg that is most likely to be damaged.  If there are sprouts hiding any where they are history!!!

While the warm air and hair drier do their things to the ice I'll be peeling, chopping, cooking apples.  Need to do a couple more apple cakes (one for us and one for the apple donor) but may also do some banana oatmeal muffins as I know there are 2 packs of bananas in the freezer ready for use.

Dinner tonight is meatballs in a ragu on the rest of the polenta from the other night.  That will be grilled I think.

    Oh - nice idea!!

I've made chutney in the past but never to a recipe.  Just apples, onions, vinegar, maybe some sugar and a bit of spice (but never ginger - ewww!).  I wasn't too worried about making loads - just a jar or two at the very most and stored in the fridge for safety as I've never got to grips with proper preserving.  Never managed to kill anyone with it yet, and it lasted for months, no fluff starting so it was always just a case of a near empty jar being chucked out to make space rather than any other reason.

Happy Anniversary @Islandmaid to you and Mr IM

Finished off the Aldi KFC tonight, with the last of a bag of roasties from the freezer, and the last of the carrot and broccoli also from the freezer (broccoli was a bit bitter as had been on the turn when i froze it but still edible).

Also cleared out nearly 1kg of chopped apples from prev years windfalls and made those into chutney (along with finally opening the last bag of an overstock of sultanas from the baking cupboard). Made room for this years windfalls 🤣 jars of chutney marinating now. No Mixed Spice so just used All Spice instead- i really like the flavour and it should work with meats / cheeses too. Guess i could've subbed some individual spices but cest la vie.

Microwave has also been evicted from the kitchen to make room for the air fryer, hope it's worth it.
