I’ve never heard that before! If I ever refer to it by its full name of Kentucky Fried Chicken, my daughters fall about laughing.
We’re having fish and chips tonight, the beer battered frozen cod from Aldi and home made chips. I might even crack open a tin of mushy peas (or ‘mucky bees’ as they are known in this house, ever since eldest daughter was a mispronouncing toddler).4 -
When I was growing up, my parents referred to mushy peas as....sloppy peas.
We are having chilli non carne, as we had takeaway fish and chips last night after a shopping trip and was probably the best I have had for a long time.
Craving it again tonight.3 -
Cheapest dinner ever (if you have courgettes to use up). Saw it on the Country cookery programme with Julius Roberts.
Basically frying an onion and garlic in a bit of oil, then grate in a courgette, fry it up. Cook some pasta (he used posh fresh pasta but I used the 20p supermarket one) and then in a separate bowl, whisk an egg with a bit of milk, and grate some cheese into it (I think he used parmesan but I just used cheddar). When the courgette/onion has nearly done, put the egg/milk/cheese into it and it turns into a creamy sauce as the egg thickens it. Then chuck it on top of the cooked pasta. Literally pennies per portion. To make a meat version you could fry up a slice of bacon in with the courgette/onion.5 -
It's KFC in this house - not that i could tell you the last time i had one, esp as OH is veggie.
Chicken and mushroom risotto from the freezer tonight, with some broccoli also from the freezer.

All I could fancy was some leftover new potatoes sliced and fried in sunflower oil and liberally sprinkled with salt, am just going to chase them down with a tangerine to be vaguely healthy.
ETA: @Brie - congratulations on your anniversary and commiserations that your celebration fell so flat. Sorry to hear about your m-i-l and her prognosis too.3 -
I’m making a stir fry of large prawns with chopped aubergine, mushroom, red pepper and spring onion in an oyster sauce, served with egg noodles drizzled with a little toasted sesame oil. This uses up lots of oddments from the fridge!2
