Was home alone this afternoon, I had a vege cottage pie from the freezer, I had made it very simply using carrots, onions, quorn mince and a tin of what was described as mixed cereals (lentils, barley, bulgur and other things. It was really tasty. Will have to find where I can get the tins from as this was something that had taken root at the back of the cupboard.
I made the others a pie also homemade but from the freezer, with mash and veg.

It’s Mister CJ’s birthday (he’s 21 again, for about the third time!) so he has chosen tonight’s dinner. We’re having smoked salmon as a little starter, followed by fillet steak with dauphinois potatoes, peas and garlic mushrooms, then strawberries and cream for pud. That’s a lot of food for a Monday night2

@C_J And happy birthday to Mr CJ. It's one week today til our anniversary and I'm wondering what delights OH has in store. I've ordered him a present and I know at some point this week he will do his usual "we're not giving each other anything, are we?" Which is a meaningless question as half the time that means he's already bought something and the other half the time he has no intention of buying even a card. But it's a shocking 35 years so frankly I'll be cranky if he intends for it to go un-noticed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Am regretting my choice of dinner already, a Chinese chicken fakeaway of some kind, with steamed rice for them, uses up spring onions and red peppers in the fridge. I’ll get the prep out of the way then stir fry when it’s coolerNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

OH said salad and I wandered off. Home with smoked salmon, tiddly prawns for cocktail, avocado, tomatoes, spring onions, romaine and have got a piece of smoked salmon fillet out of the freezer. There's a small baguette for him and oatcakes for me. There's also coleslaw and last night's left over new potatoes that will be turned into a bit of potato salad. Also 2 types of spreading cheese - cream and manchego.

@brie thankyou. I think it was from ocado. I think it was on offer, as are most things I buy
Will put it on my order next week. Heres a picture.
(Not even a patch of the lovely picture posted by @Islandmaid)
I had got a head start on tonight's dinner, I had made coleslaw and quiche yesterday and prepped the potatoes.
All I had to do was actifry the breaded chicken and put a bowl of salad together.
I made Tuesday dinner on Sunday as well, so leftover salad from today will be served with vege lasagne and garlic bread.3 -
I'm in the office today rather than working from home, so had planned something quick-to-cook from the freezer as I never have the energy or inclination to cook from scratch after a full day (how did I manage before, eh?). The freezer choices are either burritos or curry, and I don't fancy either of those! Maybe we can make do with just a large tub of ice cream instead.2

@JIL glad you found it - couldn't get to the shop I thought might have it as there was no parking.....that does look nice and I'll be looking for it in future.
Art class today so I was very organised and had my milk bottles in the car with me so I could fill up at one of the farm shops. Such good milk!!! Always amazes me. OH asked why neither of the bottles were actually full when I brought them home. Oops! Caught out!!!
Stopped at a big Watrose as I had vouchers and that's when I got a text saying we needed chicken for dinner. Like everyone else in the UK I suspect - as there were no legs or thighs available just 84 types of chicken breast and whole chickens. Got the smallest of those I could find and will joint it before slinging it on the bbq in a bit. Salad and I think there's a baguette left over from yesterday.
Oh and I had a pub lunch out! I almost never eat lunch these days. But having done some slapping of paint onto paper in an attempt to capture the spirit of the New Forest us intrepid artsy fartsies downed brushes and headed to the nearby hostelry. One chap there who acted the gentleman and got us ladies (assuming I qualify, rather than simply being female....) large beakers of icy water and ordered our lunches. He had the most amazing looking and smelling fish and chips while the rest of us had smoked mackerel salad. Nice crunchy chicory leaves in it made it extra nice - even so I didn't mind the fact they'd forgotten to put the hard boiled eggs on mine. As luck has it I'm off to a bistro for lunch again tomorrow for a friend's birthday. (he's getting a painting instead of a card....don't tell him!)
