Broccoli and cauliflower cheese with sausages tonight.3

I’ve got the last slice of l/o gammon tonight, with yet more l/o mash and veg to clear some tubs out of the fridge. DH is away for the weekend so the kids will have something easy from the freezer - fish fingers, waffles and peas comes to mind.Books read 2023 - 49/753

A quick visit to the community fridge this morning has resulted in a change to the scheduled programme for this evening - I picked up (amongst other things) a massive cauliflower, some red onions, a carton of cream, some sachets of curry powder, and a pack of filo pastry. So tonight I will be making Ottolenghi’s recipe for a curried cauliflower filo pie, to have with salad.4

one of last nights other choices, burgers. I'll put cheese and tomato in. Two burgers instead of with chips or wedges.4

I did wraps with southern fried chicken strips and salad last night for dinner. To make most of having the oven on - made an orange coconut cake - had a soft orange to use and used one of my old favourite recipes - can swap for lemon. Cheap cake to make and delicious.

@C_J - that filo pie sounds delectably mouth watering from here, I'd love to see a photo and/or hear what you think of the recipe.
@London_1 - I agree that those spring cabbages from Sains are very good value and keep well too. I used one for this recipe Spring cabbage with mustard seeds recipe | BBC Good Food and it was great.
@Florenceem - that looks lovely, great texture to your sponge, any chance of a recipe please?
I had roasted oyster mushrooms with a few new spuds and home made coleslaw with a vinaigrette dressing followed by some black grapes and a coffee.5 -
@goldfinches - it was every bit as delicious as I had hoped it would be. I can’t share a picture as we have scoffed the lot, but here’s the picture from the recipe on the website:
(apologies, that’s huge!)
I cut the cauliflower florets quite small, and added them to a bowl containing a tablespoon of vegetable oil mixed with madras curry powder, a pinch of cayenne, a little garam masala, a pinch of fenugreek powder, salt and black pepper, ensuring they were very well coated in the spices. I roasted them for about 40 minutes and then mixed them into the sauce to make the filling. I made the cheese sauce deliberately thick, added grated strong cheddar and Parmesan, and used the cream I had from the larder.
It was delicious and I will definitely make this again.5 -
Last night we got a Chinese, the kids came back from a week in Portugal and we knew GS would be a bit overwhelmed at having them home, a takeaway was an easy option.
today is the world’s most boring BBQ using Up sausages and burgers 🍔Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
