Yes, Islandmaid, well done to your daughter.
Yesterday I bought 4kg (2 joints) of roasting beef from Adli and cut it up into slices for braising, big chunks for goulash/stroganoff and smaller chunks for basic stews and pies. I think I must have been a butcher in a previous life.
I'm using 2 of the smaller slices along with some carrots (19p per kg), parsnips (19p), leeks (19p), swede (19p) and Maris Piper potatoes (29p for 2.5kg) and some onions in a stew in the slow cooker. I'll set that off after I've spent a couple or three hours in the garden having a tidy up.
I'll boil, mash and freeze the rest of the swede to add to mashed potatoes for a shepherd's pie topping.
I'm feeling quite virtuous.0 -
Many congratulations to your daughter, IM! You must be so proud of her.
Dinner. Well. I thought I had a pack of minced beef in the freezer but it turns out my list was wrong and all I have is a tiny amount decanted from an earlier pack of mince, only about a tea cup full. However in true MSE stylee I persevered with this and have added crushed garlic, diced onion and chillis, cumin, coriander, ginger, a couple of diced tomatoes which were just past their prime, a mug of frozen peas and some cooked rice to make a sort of spicy pilaff. It looks and smells very appetising, and is essentially a meal from (almost) nothing.
I'm liking the look of the Aldi Super Six veg for 19p this week, especially the parsnips and leeks. I have an empty freezer drawer available so may stock up on these as I love leek and potato soup, and roast parsnips/mashed swede with Sunday lunches.0 -

Lunch today will be beans on toast, followed by a banana muffin. Tonight we'll be having steak braised in ale with shallots, leeks, mushrooms and carrots that I did in the SC the other day and froze. I'll do some mash for the others, I'll have bread as I don't like mash. Will do some green veg as well....oh and some dumplings..
Well done and congratulations to Islandmaid's daughter0 -
Well done to your daughter IM!
I haven't decided on tonight. I'll be at French so won't have much time to eat. I might just make DH a vegan spag bol then eat it when I get in, on courgetti.0 -
I love to make a dish with eggs because I love eating eggs. Yum!! so tasty. I always use anti-slip fabric rolls because of ease.0

Last night we had pork steaks with herb rub, served with roasted veg( red peppers, onions and some fine cut garlic) and garlic bread. Tonight not entirely sure what I'll cook, but it's going to have to be something with chicken breasts.0
