@ beamerguy I am not trying to pay at all...? I said I have 2 choices on the site. I can either click to Pay or click to Appeal. I was simply saying do I click to pay to see if I can find out more details. Of course I am not going to pay. Sorry to mislead you if you thought that.

The letter we received today when there is supposedly no deliveries from Royal Mail was a surprise in itself. This letter as I said in OP, is the very first correspondence we have had from them. Driver will go take a picture of the sign in the car park as soon as he can.

Not trying to pay, trying to determine exactly what the charge is purportedly for.

The pay portal is only interested in the PCN number
    and a credit card ?

@ Umkomaas I have seen the charge now for £100 - photograph of front and back of our car. Failure to make a payment stated as reason for charge. This is rubbish as the driver had the ticket and looked at it to see what time he needed to go back for the car.

what worries us is how can the driver prove he did pay when he no longer has the ticket. We have never had a previous letter from them. Is this just a case of their word against the driver's or can they check the machine independantly?

@beamerguy explanation posted just before your post.

no the car park is on the other side of the main shopping thoroughfare from the restaurant. The other side of the town.

@ Umkomaas I have seen the charge now for £100 - photograph of front and back of our car. Failure to make a payment stated as reason for charge. This is rubbish as my husband had the ticket and we both looked at it to see what time he needed to go back for the car. He left me in the restaurant to go back for it 20 mins early and brought the car back to the restaurant where I waited for him as it was raining.

Pretty much none of which goes into an appeal. You are not going to write about who parked/drove and what the story was.

Have you read the NEWBIES FAQs? You could have appealed this by now, online, in the right way as Keeper, using the BPA template appeal.

My signature tells you where to click,o assuming you've missed the forum's standard advice & appeal (please don't say it doesn't fit your circs...). How on earth does a very simple Britannia thread get to 20 posts without simply appealing as per the sticky thread? No need for any of this discussion.

You got a reminder, appeal then. Now, online, in the keeper's name, not saying who parked.

It makes no odds that you never got a first letter and the NEWBIES thread tells you that already. The first letter is treated as the NTK (acronyms all explained there too in post #5).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
Home»Motoring»Parking Tickets Fines & Parking - read the NEWBIES THREAD

I only received this letter about 2 hours ago and found your site shortly after that. I am also elderly and not that good with legal jargon. I did read the NEWBIES FAQ's first but got a bit lost I do apologise ... I couldn't find the right part for the situation I had found myself in. I will look again tomorrow and attempt the appeal. If I still cannot fathom it I'll try to get some more help from somewhere. Sorry to waste your time. Thank you for the help.
