I pointed out that you should remove details of who was driving. A 5/10 minute job.

You do have more onerous tasks to deal with in normal life surely!!

With help available here your popla appeal will be well honed (put it up in draft for comments)

Definitely sleep on it before deciding!!

What would happen if I just do nothing?
Probably nothing except letters demanding money! I've ignored Britannia myself and nothing happened except the letters, which we laughed at.
I do not have the wherewithall to compose anything to PoPLA.
So copy one that just won, and adapt it to change any details that make no sense for your case:

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Britannia tend to throw in the towel pretty easily themselves. If composing your own bespoke appeal is to much for you cut and paste the one in Coupon Mads link.

There is a very high chance you will win with that one as is. That has to be less stressful than enduring letters being bombarded at you from debt collectors or having to stump up their ridiculous fees.

@waamo I would love to do that if it covers my situation properly. I felt that my 2 page email from Britannia was disputing all the PoFA 2012 details (they state I have been notified under para 9(2)(b) of schedule 4) and the signage stuff though and they say that if I go down that line and appeal to PoPLA they will add a further £100 to the fine. That is my fear and why I was saying that I would just pay the fine and get rid of all of this stress completely. I only asked about doing nothing as it was suggested as an alternative to appealing rather than paying.

It’s your call but as I said they chuck in the towel at the first sign of a POPLA appeal. I reckon if you cut and pasted that appeal you would have a 90% chance of winning.

Adding random amounts to the fee is a massive no no. I mean so big it could get them banned from Dvla access. Show that to the BPA and I bet everything goes away.

Report them to the ATA, DVLA, Trading Standards, (in writing), your MP and the local paper. Such behaviour needs to be stamped on with a hob nail boot.

These companies thrive by intimidating the weak, the vulnerable, and the stupid.

    IT IS NOT A FINE
    Its an invoice. Nothing more

ALso they cannot add £100. Assuming it is the stndard £100 it is reduced to £60 for early payment, but goes back up to £100. They cannot just add on £100, check the letter more carefully.

Are Britannia are on the funny joice ???

It is your right to appeal without penalty but you
    do lose the discount.
Check what has been said, did they say they
would ADD £100 or .... if your appeal failed
you would be liable to the full £100 ???

If they did say ADD then report them to the DVLA
    and the BPA
