Wife taking surname

  • As I said it may because in my mum and dads era you never saw it and deffo not the ladies surname. And db surnames were regarded as pretentious ( people probably just don't mention that bit anymore but to each their own )
  • Anyway the poll I'll take the poll as a good indication not to worry about it.

    Thanks for voting.

Says quite happy to get married just feels she's always been that name and doesn't really feel that marriage needs to change it.

Thought tbh honest more people would say they would expect them to want to take the husbands name as they are now married, but I guess people are just not that fussed anymore.

I'd quite like to see your partner create a poll asking how she should feel about the fact that you didn't think her views about her name were important enough to be valid in their own right.

Your poll has given a landslide result that your expectations were wrong.

Has that changed your own views?

Might not have changed how I feel as that's down to me but as I said and the poll shows I'm in the minority.

I was interested in other people's views. That's how you gain perspective. Not out to get the other half lol
  • One coin. I say i see heads she says she tails.
Opinion, Neither ones right, neither ones wrong.
  • Reading the comments today though has made me realise one thing and that's if nothing will change then probably no reason to ever get married so I'll save a fortune lol.

This did turn out to be a money saving question after all!

I can't say that I have completely understood your last few posts. Especially this one.

Were you only going to get married so that your future wife would take your surname?

TBH it's news to me that some women marry and don't take their husbands surname. I assume they still call themselves "Miss" rather than "Mrs" then?

They can use whatever they like as the title you use is not part of your legal name anyway.

I have a couple of colleagues who changed their surnames by deed poll to those of their partner and children and call themselves Mrs. Neither want to get married.

I don't really understand that, but each to their own.

Ultimately, whatever someone wants to call themselves is pretty irrelevant to whether or not they're committed to their partner/relationship.
