That might be because the Energy Club comparison site is a bit crap. Use a decent comparison site and see how Neon Reef compares?Penelopa.Pitstop said:I got price increase email and I wasn't happy about it, since I only switched in June. Did some quick research on Energy Club comparison website and nothing is cheaper, even after the price hike. I compare actual prices per unit and standing charge, I don't believe in usual: "you will save xxx per month".1 -
Yes I don’t understand comparison sites
i too see despite a 28% hike they still cheap
but then rare anyone ever ends up paying monthly what was quoted
before the hike no way could Outfoxthemarket of been a 1/3 cheaper than others and the others increase it seems at most 7%
are the comparison sites fit for purpose I’m wondering? If there was a National rise of 28% surely Boris would be having shoes chucked at him?0 -
Comparison sites are working fine for me. OFTM are now 24th for electricity and 40th for gas in my search results. In the expensive dual fuel race they're down to 8th.Dazzlep said:Yes I don’t understand comparison sites

What comparison sites are the best ones to use?0

Citizens Advice is good because you get everything by default. I've also used Energylinx but you have to keep selecting "show me everything" to override their default "backhanders only" mode.3

That's exactly what I do. I know my annual usage and I check unit prices and standing charge and calculate expected annual cost.Gerry1 said:
You should always compare the total annual cost based on your annual usage in kWh derived from actual meter readings.Penelopa.Pitstop said:I compare actual prices per unit and standing charge, I don't believe in usual: "you will save xxx per month".
I found cheaper company: Green.Energy, but will wait a week longer, before I switch from November. It will be going back to Economy 7 and washing/dishwashing at night again. I really liked flat tariff and not bothering with saving on night tariff. It's a bit disappointing, that I have to switch just after 3 months.
Will check some other sites too, maybe something cheap will come up. OK, Neon Reef came up cheapest on Which.

You're in luck: Neon Reef will happily supply single rate for E7 meters. Really irritating that the CEC pretends they don't exist.Penelopa.Pitstop said:

Of course it can be varied. My issue is the timing. Is it permitted so soon after a contract commences? Actually it was the day after the contract commenced.Gerry1 said:
Can a variable rate be varied? Yes, the clue in in the nameRalphS said:I only joined OTM 2 days ago. Today I get an email advising me they are putting up my variable unit price. Is that permitted?

That's what happens with a variable tariff: it can change at any time. There's no guarantee, any more than if you buy a tin of baked beans in Tesco today but find it's cheaper tomorrow. If you want the certainty that price won't increase you have to opt for a fixed tariff, 'you pays your money and you takes your chances'.2
