... is anyone on here saving for Financial Independence? Chris
Getting pretty close now - just 6 paydays, 24 paydays, or 46 paydays to go - depending on what number we finally decide on!
Let us know your plans...Save 12k in 2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-2022 - then early-retired.0 -
£1042.69 for October, helped by a work bonus that has managed to go entirely to savings... looking to hit my new target by the end of November I think...Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056
Current mortgage amount: £226,957.97
Start student loan 2012: £29,750; current student loan: CLEARED July 20250 -
#11 with £3883.15 for October - amazingly that's my worst month since April. Year to date is £39,012.27. The 2018 challenge feels particular satisfying, as we're finally seeing the benefits of some decisions we took a few years ago.... is anyone on here saving for Financial Independence?
I don't really think in FIRE terms (maybe I should), but our savings rate is now well above 50% of income, and the plan is to keep it that way until retirement at 55(ish) in a little over ten years time, so I guess that's what I'm doing...0 -
I for one haven't dropped away, even if my plan now is very different to where it was at the start of the year! But yes, it is noticeably quieter than usual on this thread, I think even for this time of year although that may not be objectively true.
I saved £529.44 in October, which is net of approximately £600 medical bills (which shouldn't be quite so high going forwards) and £200 of house buying expenses. So it would have been over £1,300 if not for these two things, which tells me I'm back on track in terms of following my budget
I've just today received my LISA bonus of £1,000, but my hope is that by the check-in at the end of November my savings will be -£25,000 or so as hopefully we will have exchanged by then - please keep your fingers crossed for me guys; it's worked so far!!
Two more months to go now - well done to all those still going0 -
I'm still going, still tracking, but sooo busy I don't post so much these days. I have changed both my savings target (up from £10k to £12k) and my mortgage reduction target (down from £65k to £60k) for the last two quarters - so all my smug little targets in my signature have gone amber from green (using my traffic lights RAG to track).
I can see (but not touch) the final double glazing payment that will settle in full on Monday and so for the remaining three salary cheques I will be almost £400 a month better off. I will put this into savings and pay down the mortgage so I don't get used to it before my money reduces by more than half from February!
It all feels perilously close now! Quite scary really. I hope I don't lose focus and start watching TV all day...Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

My new diary is here0 -
I'm also still saving and tracking just not posting.
If I'm not wrong my last 2 months, £1870 in September and £1670 in October have me hitting my target 2 months early. I also received a raise at work effective from October (an extra 2K per year) so we'll see if I can top 20K is this year.
I'm also aiming for financial independence (we'll see about the retire early), but have a long way to go yet. I've hit a sweet spot in terms of earnings and savings and I'm now managing to save about 2/3 of my take home pay without too much effort.Save 12K in 2018 #20 - £20,890/£18,000 (116%) November £1950
Save 12K in 2017 #46 - £13,184/£12,000 (109.87%):D
