£1500 for October from 76 form updated.
Been sporadic saving this year with buying this house don't think im going to manage the 6k I wanted but on the positive side now have a reasonable safety net and from next year can throw everything at the mortgage.
  • I did save this month, even though it was quite an expensive one with a flight and long weekend away.

However, I am declaring minus £1000 :( as my S&S ISA has taken a bit of a battering and is 3 and a half grand down on what it was last month. I count my savings as the increase over what I had when I last declared.

Ah well, let's hope it recovers before the end of the year, as I would love to manage £20,000 though that was always a bit of a stretch.

Only two months to go of this challenge, everyone is doing so well. I wouldn't have kept on the straight and narrow without you all, and without Slowly keeping our tallies. Thanks everyone! :)

    [STRIKE]-£544.50 (negative) saved in September.[/STRIKE]

I forgot about some money I had transferred for my holiday!! Therefore my total for September is -£45.87

Negative is largely down to a lovely holiday I had in September, so not overly disappointed with the negative figure this month.

Flat purchase is currently going through legals/surveys etc, and am hoping its all done by end of the year (and before Christmas!)

I have been excluding the costs of the flat purchase from my savings as I think that's the most reasonable way of accounting it, for example the costs incurred for my holiday will count against my savings.

    £589.66 saved in October!

Need to try get more of my money into an ISA (not stocks & shares) to save on tax. Am I able to add money to my Cash ISA if I have already made contributions to my HTB ISA? I'm pretty sure they're both considered as 'Cash' ISAs and therefore can only contribute to one in this tax year?

Flat purchase completion got pushed back to January, but at least that gives me more time to put more money into the HtB ISA! Fingers crossed it doesn't get delayed further.

  • Hi Everyone

Is it my imagination, or is the thread getting a lot quieter recently?? Hope everyone is staying on-track - only 2 more saving months to go!

I'm declaring £1019.20 for October, as we're getting the savings back on-track after two VERY expensive (i.e. negative saving) months with building work on the house. At least it's all done now, so I'm not expecting any more major financial hurdles for a while. Mind you the S&S ISA has taken quite a dip - good job I don't count it's ups-and-downs in my savings numbers on this thread!

    Happy saving everyone

hi all no. 15 here reporting a savings of £583.53 for October, bringing my yearly total to £6,732.53.

With two months to go I'm really unlikely to meet target now but I've had two unexpected big trips I more or less have had to book/take to sort out family stuff, in addition to other big expenses, some I knew were coming, some not, so if I get round the £8,000 mark for the entire year I'll be happy. Better than a poke in the eye! :)

If you look at the spreadsheet showing the updated amounts you can see people dropping away - it happens every year, but normally by around October we would have collectively reached over £1m, whereas at the moment it's just over £711,000 (to be fair not everyone will have declared for October yet). There were 148 people who wanted to take part to begin with and now judging by the September totals it's down to about 40. So it does seem to be a fairly quiet year. It's a great shame, I wish people would hang in there - of course who knows why people don't stick with it, but anything saved is better than nothing in my book.

Hi all, hope it's ok to post as I'm not a 2018 saver, but reading through this thread is really REALLY giving me a massive incentive to jump on the 2019 bandwagon! :D

I am a self confessed spendaholic and I've had enough, quite frankly. 2019 is the year I'm going to save rather than spend. I'm approaching my late thirties and (other than for my wedding) I have never saved a dime in my life. :rotfl::o

Likewise! Looking forward to seeing how I can save in 2019
