  • Even if you rang a taxis with mobile number displaying and u didnt turn up its not a criminal matter
  • But if you predominately did that first, you would be a very sad person and secondly they can trace numbers if prolific
  • But could do a runner

I didn't say it was a criminal matter. But if you ring up with number showing then they can at least call you to check where you are and if you don't turn up they can blacklist you number in the system. When you ring up with your withheld number you could be someone who has been previously blacklisted trying it on.

It would depend on why you didn't turn up.
If you booked a taxi and didn't turn up due to circumstances out of your control then no, it wouldn't be a criminal matter (but the taxi company could still try a private prosecution if their losses made it worthwhile).

If however, you made a booking with the intention of not turning up for the taxi then yes, it could well class as the criminal act of fraud.

    Fraud by false representation

    (1) A person is in breach of this section if he—

    (a) dishonestly makes a false representation, and

    (b) intends, by making the representation—

    (i) to make a gain for himself or another, or

(ii)to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss.
For the purposes of this section a representation may be regarded as made if it (or anything implying it) is submitted in any form to any system or device designed to receive, convey or respond to communications (with or without human intervention).
  • You have asked your question and been given several answers.

Did you think to ask the taxi company why they wanted your phone number?

Another reason might be so that they can contact you if there is a problem with the taxi coming to you.

Personally I would rather a taxi had my number than not. It is not private, the reason you have it is so you can use it. Yes, it is not ethical to provide colleagues phone numbers to anyone, but they are not your phone numbers.

You have the choice here, you can provide the information they want and use a taxi, or not.

How do you get to the shop? I would have thought any health problem that prevented you getting back would have caused problems getting there.

    That's exactly what they do.

Why not google and find out what the rules actually are? Local councils set the rates. Ask your local authority what the rules are. They can't simply add £5 on for no reason.

As for the minimum charge, that is set for a good reason. If you are wanting to be driven 400 yards, and they can only charge you the meter rate that follows the minimum, then while they take you for 400m, they lose a fare that is more profitable. How many taxi drivers would pick you up then, do you think? I would put it between low and zero.

Your posts don't pass the reasonableness test.

If you prefer to shop yourself rather than use online shopping if you have an Iceland near you, they will store your shopping and then deliver it to your home for a small fee.

The second button under the posts with a speech bubble is a quote button. Press it and see what happens. Multi quoting is a little more complicated, but using the quote function makes following posts much easier. Show some consideration to your fellow posters...
