Taxis wanting contact numbers ??
Options
Recently although i hate taking taxis cause they are a complete rip off but when i have had no other option everytime i have had a taxis i ring on unknown they demand that i ring them from a mobile which shows the number... i understand that they want it supposedly for people not to order a taxis and not turn up but i dont think it is right... that is personal information that they shouldnt need . Therefore is it essential by law they need a mobile number??

No, there is no law that says they need your number, but then there is no law that says that they have to provide you with a taxi.
All the taxi (private hire) companies I know in my area have your number so they can phone when the car arrives.
I also don't think they are a total rip off. They have to make enough for a decent wage, on top off all the overheads that are required to run a car, working unsociable hours dealing with often drunk, abusive, obnoxious people.0 -
Whilst it's not essential by law, they can always just reuse the fare if they choose.0

Getting the number us part if providing the service; so they can let you know they are there. Taxi drivers must waste hours a week waiting on people coming out.
They have no obligation to accept your fare, and aren't going to do anything else with the number.0 -
Well i disagree to travel 2 minutes and charge £4 is ridiculous0

You have just answered my question exactly they are a rip off because they got to pay for a decent wage and overheads0

Just because Taxis are expensive does not mean they are a rip off, perhaps those that criticize should spend a week doing the job. I drove taxis for 3 years back in the mid to late 80's it's a job that demands long and unsociable hours I could be picking up contract customers at 4 or 5 am and taking them to Heathrow or Gatwick for early flights and when the pubs kicked out, picking up the local drunken low life scum and having to endure physical violence or threats of violence, being messed around, not wanting to pay etc and the Police were just as useless back then.
As for wanting your mobile number, where's the problem?I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

It's a job, they do it to earn a wage to live on.
Do you expect them to do it for free (or cheaper) and not have enough money to live on, as well as to run a car and keep it on the road legally?0 -
I wouldnt expect them to use their personal mobile number to ring when im ordering a service.. its not part of the service they have never rung me to say they have arrived .. they want it to see if im not going to turn up
Nurses deal with violence pity they didnt get a decent wage!!0 -
No up a really big hill with loads of shopping. And children ... honestly im not that lazy0
