No up a really big hill with loads of shopping. And children ... honestly im not that lazy
I have spent many years walking back from my local Tesco, 20 minute walk, with loads of shopping and kids. My solution? One of the shopping trollies that people associate with OAPs, it is really effective. And if that was not big enough I simply put a rucksack on.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

I wouldnt expect them to use their personal mobile number to ring when im ordering a service.. its not part of the service they have never rung me to say they have arrived .. they want it to see if im not going to turn up
Nurses deal with violence pity they didnt get a decent wage!!
Very true, but what has that got to do with taxi drivers?
All our local taxi firms text or phone when they arrive (unless you are there, outside, waiting.0 -

Well if there is loads of shopping it's fair to assume the value is at a level where the supermarket will deliver at a lesser rate than the taxi fare. Although I have a car I will walk with 2 or 3 bags for the near 2 mile route.0 -
I have never seen someone get so annoyed over a taxi.
Yu say they are expensive, they are. But that is because they have to sit around waiting for customers earning nothing. Then when they do get there, they have to sometimes sit outside waiting for people to say bye to whoever they are seeing and then come out or wait for people to find money to pay. That may not be you, but it does happen.
They have to pay higher costs for car insurance, plenty of fuel, they have to pay rent to the cab office etc etc. All of that costs money.
After a night out, I used to pay £10 for a 3 mile journey that would cost me about 30p if I drove it myself. It is like anything, if I clean my car, it would cost me about £3, £1 for a bucket, £1 for a sponge and then some water and fairy or something and I could wash my car 100 times. But I take it to the local car wash and pay a fiver.
As for the phone number, they will do it for a number of reasons:
1) To let you know when they are outside.
2) As a way to prevent people taking a ride and then doing a runner.
3) If you try to rob them, they have your number to give to police.
The simple answer however is if you do not like it for whatever reason, do not get a taxi. I do not see the issue personally, but each to their own.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. What you need is an old fashioned pram, chuck all the kids who can't walk and the shopping in it, up the hill, much cheaper than the gym!0

If you are paying £4 a week for taxi home from a supermarket can I suggest you look into home delivery services?
With Tesco you pay £6.99/month and get unlimited home deliveries 7 days a week (I think you can also use CLubcard points to pay towards this)"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Recently although i hate taking taxis cause they are a complete rip off but when i have had no other option everytime i have had a taxis i ring on unknown they demand that i ring them from a mobile which shows the number... i understand that they want it supposedly for people not to order a taxis and not turn up but i dont think it is right... that is personal information that they shouldnt need . Therefore is it essential by law they need a mobile number??
Well firstly i should point out that a mobile phone number is certainly not "personal information" by any definition (look it up online if you disagree).
Secondly Taxis are not a "rip off", a rip off is when you pay for good or services you don't receive or are charged more than you agreed or were informed for goods or services.
When you are paying your £4 to go "2 minutes" in a taxi you are paying for the costs of them taking your call, the cost of them travelling to your location, the cost of driving you and waiting for you to load and unload your shopping and kids plus the cost of them having to travel back to another location and all their other overheads. So if anything £4 could be considered too small of a minimum charge.
Lastly as this is a money saving site you really should be walking that kind of distance. So get a trolley or similar to help.0 -
