Because i dont believe the council would put a limit on taxis fares if a taxis decides to charge 5.00 extra per extra miles its a private company what can the council do
You really have no idea about taxi`s do you?
Councils set the amount that a taxi can charge, any firm or driver that overcharges would have their licence revoked.
Any driver that picks you up deserves every penny they earn.
  • Evetyone is mentioning about protection of drivers having mobile phones number wot about customers having license plates numbers so family and friends know where they are it works both ways
  • Why can you not reply in a proper manner obviously i dont know abput taxis because i wouldn't be putting this question up so no i didnt know that doesnt take a brainbox to work that out

You've noticed that they're displayed prominently on the front and rear of every vehicle, right?

I understand a taxis being suspicious if asked to go to a reaaly deserted place where nobody goes, but not revealing a mobile number although they have ur address and the control know where the drivers going .. i disagree

I really don't think you are ever going to understand unfortunately.

You really need to read the posts above, how exactly are they going to have your address? They don't know if you live at the place your being pick up at or dropped off at.

Maybe if you think of it like this:

Your running a taxi firm and you know that in the past people have been messed about and also some people may end up damaging the taxi or in rare occasions hurting the driver.
You get many calls each day/night for people wanting taxis and your not short of business. So why would you want to risk sending drivers to people who withhold their number when you don't need to.
  • Really hadnt noticed that.. never noticed a customer standing outside a taxis taking the reg down.. that reg number should be texted to the customers phone and that would be a valid reason to have a mobile phone number... protection of both... cause if that was the case i wouldnt have put my question up in the first place!
  • But thats the same as picking people off from town... you could be lying about ur home address and when they pull up could do a runner.. its just pot luck.. they dont ask for a mobile number when you get a taxis from town... so how do theu know ur genuine

Well yes, some companies will text you with the licence plate and drivers name, if they have your mobile number.

There was also a campaign recently to encourage people (especially younger mainly female passengers) to take a selfie with the number plate in view and with the driver and send to a relative/friend.
  • Exactly i agree if that taxis would text me that its fine... but they dont..

They don't ask for a mobile number because your not ringing them up. Your getting in the Taxi there and then so there is no way you couldn't turn up.

If you wanted to waste a Taxis time it's much easier to ring them up on a withheld number and ask them to pick you up and not be there. Than it is to get a taxi somewhere and then run away and not pay.
