...They had SareL or a name to that effect that was very helpful in the employment forum. She went but the forum continued. ....
When I was made redundant, she provided advice on a very specific part of the process and law which nobody else on the redundancy forum was able to do.

That forum has never been the same since she left.

I think that the problem is that the dunstonhs & sarels of this forum didn't just give excellent information to us but they also attracted others who added to that. If those others are new & see what happens to long term posters they just decide not to bother. I have to be honest and say that in the circumstances who among us could blame them for that. But nevertheless it becomes a double loss.

The fact the opening post has received 120 thanks demonstrates how many forum users appreciated dunstonh's advice.

However, we have to be mindful that none of us know the exact reasons dunstonh has been banned.

Years ago I used to moderate a works forum where strong opposing views were held and it is a thankless task. Whatever action you take (or don't take) you upset somebody!

Nothing original or different to add here. Just to add my thanks to dunstonh and voice my absolute agreement with others that he added so much value to this forum, was always helpful and wise and will be greatly missed.

I am another who will miss dh's wise words.
What I do find hard to reconcile, is that currently there is a poster on the Utilities and Telephone and Broadband Boards who is particularly argumentative and frequently insults the views of other posters who don't share his narrow view of the world - but he is still going!!

At the time of this post (8.51pm 2/11/17),using the forum search > advanced search > posts by username=dunstonh I can see his posts.

Either people are capitalising some letters in his user name or they are going a different route. But I agree, the forum search can be flaky at times.

Forum search > advanced search link.

I didn't mean the search as unreliable.

I meant that if someone posts a link to a search result, as you did, and some people followed it, the forum database doesnt store searches permanently, the list of results is only valid for about half an hour, and after that there won't be any.

So if people want to search, they'll have to do their own new one, rather than follow a link to a search result that someone else did more than half an hour ago.

I'm still surprised almost every time I visit the Motoring board at just how fractious it can be, with people sometimes ganging up on new posters to express scepticism that this is a genuine query.

Since Dunstonh was never one of them, your post is a little off topic..
