Goodbye to dunstonh

Hi All,
Due to the level of activity and length of membership in the forum, the decision to ban / PPR (Posting Privileges Removed) Dunstonh has been escalated to MoneySavingExpert.com Editor-in-Chief Jason Mills to be reviewed. We realise his time and activity on the forum has helped many but we need to be sure forum rules are kept and met by all. We hope to have a decision about his posting privileges soon.
I would firstly like to thank Dunstonh for all of his previous posts. His advice has been very helpful.
Hopefully Dunstonh will be reinstated soon because this forum is the better for his participation .I'm very much a believer in
"In what goes around, comes around".
So try and be nice to each other.0 -
dunstonh's advice has been valuable and he has helped me in my personal decision-making. I remember on one occasion he made a mistake and was quick to come back after being told, stated he was wrong and corrected his error. Because of his careful checking I felt safe in using his guidance.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0

It would be beneficial to posters if MSE inc had a symbol it could attach to posts designating them off limits for financial reasons it would stop us all potentially falling into a well-meaning trap.
If MSE forums do go south is there an independent alternative out there?
End of an era, nice while it lasted.0 -
I was greatly impressed by dunstonh's knowledge and helpfulness. It would be a shame to lose him.0

Just caught up with this and I agree that this is a very poor decision. The posts by DunstonH showed he was very knowledgeable and informed as well as being interesting.0

Being banned in the first place implies bad judgement by MSE Forum control….
In my view the forum hasn't been the same for some time now (it lost a lot of sparkle and life following the MSE sell-off) but it still functions well enough for many very useful discussions. But bannings like this shake one's faith in the whole concept - and could trigger further loss of input.
I quite agree. Several people I know have been banned recently, or had posts removed, it seems solely for expressing contrary opinions (or facts), rather than for 'misdemeanours' such as swearing, bigotry or attacking other posters.
Very, very bad sign.
It's something the people who run MSE should review.0 -
If
From what I remember, he lives around East Anglia and supports Norwich (not sure how much into football he is!)? But I hope he enjoys his time away from the forum.
He'd laugh at that comment as an ardent Chelsea supporter!
Just to add to all the comments already on here requesting his reinstatement. He's been the most useful poster on this forum. I've not been around very much myself over this last year but he was one of the reasons I stuck around.0 -
In many many cases dunstonh has been there for us in our hour of need in what for most is the most important decision they will ever make.
His advice has been excellent, challenged by some but that is good to.
A free asset that will be sadly missed. I just hope if the matter for him not posting is fairly trivial in the scheme of things, someone could look past this.0 -
dunstonh was a hero to many. Your valuable input will be sadly missed. Very few people in the world like him left nowadays. Helping so many people. MSE is now a money making business rather than money saving.0

He was very patient when I asked questions recently. Seems such a shame that he should be banned. Please have a rethink MSE.0
