    @Suffolk_lass - poor DH - hope he's feeling OK?

    I have no idea what caused the poor sleep. Last night was also bad, but not as bad. I am halving my coffee intake today as a test.

    One of the podcast guys I listen to says if you have caffeine at midday, half of it is still in your system after 6 hours and a quarter after 12 hours.  I had already switched to decaf tea a couple of years before hearing that but I was quite shocked.

    I'd heard that. It does have less effect by evening, if my dozing in the chair is anything to go by. Caffeinated tea in the evening is the worst thing for me and I have not found a decaf coffee I like enough to buy more than once.

    The last couple of nights have been a bit better, but I'm finding myself groggy in the morning because I'm sleeping too well (assume I'm catching up).

    I am finding myself completely lacking in motivation at work at the moment. I'd say it was burn out, but I haven't been working particularly hard over the last couple of months, I'm just getting a lot of the aspect of my job that I like least :( 20 years to go feels like a life sentence - can anyone suggest another job that pays you £40k for common sense?

    Lots of things would pay you for common sense in the private sector Ed, but then you'd lose all those lovely DB pensions!

    This definitely happened to me. Because I have a lot of experience I have been expected to do a particularly stressful function that everyone else is terrified of. It annoys me because it is still very stressful for me.

    It sounds like it is time for a role change for you. Another role within your LA or a neighbouring LA ?, so that you keep the DB pension.

    Me too. And the same now I have stopped work. My fellow Parish Councillors are going to have to find another Chairman though as I am not doing it any more. I need a couple of years respite but we have some big battles coming. Annual meeting where appointments are made is in the first week of May.

    Actually I think there is a certain amount of everyone I know experiencing demotivation at the moment. I bought new taps for the bathroom washbasin and they are still waiting for me to fit them (DH isn't bendy enough) - they have been in the house for a month, alongside a new toilet seat. And seeds are behind too (cold spring is making it worse). Awaiting 2nd jab before I start doing things I usually do too. All very dull and just can't find my mojo

    @Busy_Mee - I fear you're right, I just need to work up the momentum, suspect reaching the end of my potential pay bracket in October will provide the boot to the posterior that I need ;)

    @Suffolk_lass - I am trying to find my mojo by accomplishing quick things that resolve something that has been annoying me. For example - clearing our desk in the spare room, or putting away paperwork that has been gathering on a worktop. Nothing fancy, just trying to train myself back into the "getting stuff done" mindset :)

    Have opened another 1.44% saver, now got £7,000 in those accounts, should be up to £10,000 by the end of June. I have to keep in mind the £3,800 credit card balance, but that can be paid off at 0% over a geological timeframe!

    Oh yes!  Volunteer work can be a nightmare.  I thought I'd finally volunteer to work on the committee of the local counselling organisation, I'd been a member for 15 years or so, and they're always desperate for committee members.  Well, I met some nice people, but ... one committee member actually went psychotic, on the week she was supposed to be giving a talk for which we were charging commercial rates, she had a spell in psychiatric hospital, and another tipped into full-blown authoritarian/far right mode, she was actually expelled from the organisation.  The other committee members begged me to stay until after the AGM when we had to explain to the membership why everyone had been a little distracted, and I resigned the next month.  The chairman was incredibly bitter and completely ignored me.  Utterly horrendous.

    I somehow managed 15,000 steps today!

    Took DD to and from school, did a little bit of laundry, made some slow cooked ox cheek with onions and tomato and got our grocery shopping for the week (ok, so that was 4 different shops)! Hopefully be BBQ weather tomorrow, so am ready with steak, cooking chorizo, burgers and loads of salads :)

    I also managed to pick up a nice breakfast for Mrs E and I and had a wee visit to our fancy local cheese shop.
