Finally managed to do it and it accepted me as a new customer once I picked Clydesdale rather than Yorkshire. All went dead smoothly and my Halifax Reward account has been sacrificed for the purpose :)

You switch at the end once your application has been successful. Did you miss that bit?

Sounds like you might have closed your screen prematurely because you go from the 'Congratulations we've opened your account' screen to below it setting up your internet banking details and then it asks you if you want to switch and then you enter those details.

Probably best to give them a call and see if you can do the switch over the phone.

Rather than spend forever on the phone to get them to sort out my 'yorkshire' application. I applied again from scratch using clydesdale instead and what worked fine.

Now I have the account setup on the app, have entered the details of a sacrificial account to switch and setup 2x DD from each of my tesco savings accounts.

All I need to do now is transfer in £1k every 31 days and setup the tesco DD to pull in £1 once a month.
  • Is it possible to open up a bank account and switch straight away?

I've switched 3 banks this year and my nationwide/first direct both got linked regular savers, so can't move them.

Then only just switched to Halifax this month and waiting on wages to go in.

I was just thinking I'd open a basic account and then switch that, or will this screw up credit reports?

Is it possible to create direct debits this way and have them viewed by both banks as such? Whenever I try to create a recurring monthly payment between two accounts it shows as a standing order, not a direct debit. Apart from not banking with Tesco, what am I missing here?

Tesco instant access accounts transfer using DD. At least until they pull it in April net year.

Just to update myself for reference, the first 1k transfer in and out has been done, the DD from my 2x the Tesco savings accounts are due to pull £1 each on November 8 (2x DD in 62 days box ticked) and I have logged in to the B app.

    Outstanding:
    The switch to complete.
Pay in another 1k after 31 days.
